Player Exposure Requirements
* All Clubs must meet the following minimum requirements regarding players exposed for selection in the Expansion Draft:
i) One defenseman who is a) under contract in 2017-18 and b) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
ii) Two forwards who are a) under contract in 2017-18 and b) played in 40 or more NHL games the prior season OR played in 70 or more NHL games in the prior two seasons.
iii) One goaltender who is under contract in 2017-18 or will be a restricted free agent at the expiration of his current contract immediately prior to 2017-18. If the club elects to make a restricted free agent goaltender available in order to meet this requirement, that goaltender must have received his qualifying offer prior to the submission of the club's protected list.
* Players with potential career-ending injuries who have missed more than the previous 60 consecutive games (or who otherwise have been confirmed to have a career-threatening injury) may not be used to satisfy a club's player exposure requirements, unless approval is received from the NHL. Such players also may be deemed exempt from selection by the League.

yeah i was wondering the same thing. Looking at Arizona and Toronto for example Az has 2 goalies 1 is active NHL The other is a yoyo call up. Toronto has 1 NHL active goalie with 2 in the minors. Exposing an active goalie could keave a franchise with out an active TG.

We are following some expansion rules to the letter, and others are tweaked. The rules being tweaked like the drafting of 3 goalies and now perhaps exposure, I would argue are not in Vegas favor.
Other rules, such as drafting a player off each team are being imported 100% authentic. Also I would argue not in the favor of Vegas.
My thinking..
The real VGK has to draft from every team but in doing so gets to draft 3 Goalies.
If we can't draft 3 Goalies, why force us to draft the same number of players?
I think we go authentic NHL Rules or we tweak them all to be fair. If no 3 Goalies then a 25 team draft leaving 5 teams of my choosing off my list. Tampa perhaps included in the 5.
If we are "looking out" for FNHL ownership by tweaking the rules a bit, then we should "look out" for Vegas as well to be fair.

I actually agree with Daddy in this case, Just because vegas gets to pick 3 goalies by no means will that be 3 top tier starting goalies, with the cap crunch and teams protecting low priced goalies first, I would guess they can pick 2 starters at the very most and than a filler , my guess is they end up with a starter and a couple backups or 2 starters and prospect guy that is signed to someones pro team. If they took 3 starters it would purely end up being to trade one of them out which could benefit a team like yours Jonathan.
I have had 2 starters this year and many nights both were starting on the same night. You can still only start 1 a night. Having 3 starters at a high price would be counter productive IMO as I think you would be spending big money to have a guy sit on the bench.

The expansion draft rules were almost too straight fwd and simple from the get go.
Reducing the number of picks might be a good idea. Reduce by 3, 4, 5. Let's see after PR confirms.

With all do respect, just because you made a call, doesn't mean it was the right call.
Fortunately there is time to tweak a few things in the interests of fairness.
One thing Vegas would like to see is the exempt list gone. That list does us absolutely no good, the only list that would help the draft process run smoother is the "exposure list". Who is exempt, does nothing.
I've made a few suggestions in the past, some have helped the league, some were dismissed, it's all good either way. Love the league and will continue trying to suggest ways to improve it.

Just for clarification do we have to expose a minimum number of players or do we need to just go by the protection rules? It was my understanding it was the latter but if not I will adjust on the fly.

I had the same question back when I joined and was told we are following Franchise NHL Expansion rules which are a simplified version of the full on NHL expansion guidelines for teams. So we have to choose to protect either of 2 amounts of players, show who's exempt. That's it. I won't think the commissioners are going to count minimum games played of the past 2 years versus minimum exposed players per position etc. You need lawyers and secretaries for that type of administrative work.

Need an updated list from these team's. Edmontons Igor Bobkov submission is an example why the expansion rules needed tweaked.
There is no way I'm using one of my two Goalie selections on this guy if he is the only eligible Oiler player. In the real NHL no team is constructed this way with all rooks/minor leaguers making an entire roster exempt.
This is a money league, and that's not happening.

Fantasy and real life is night and day. No team in real hockey would have 13 NHL players of the 23 they're allowed. No team would have 10 prospects, who are not ready for NHL.
Yeah, I bought out a few guys that I could of exposed, but I did it only thinking about the Edmonton Oilers. That is the only team that matters to me. I wanted cap off the books. I could buyout Igor too. He is one of a few long shots on my NHL roster. That is what rebuilding a team is all about, finding players who can contribute at a value.

Yeah these rules have been in place from the beginning there's no way to change anything now. Teams have been planning their strategies with the draft in mind for months.
Vegas will have a good d and great goaltending and most importantly tons of cap room.

I have no problems when it comes to team's lists. Real NHL team's can't field an entire team of exempt guys.
I'm putting out there front and center that if a team has one eligible guy to be drafted and he isn't even in the league, I won't be drafting him. Pretty straight forward, pretty simple.
The FNHL expansion draft is a bit different because it's fantasy and team's can have non competitive rosters or a team of ineligible players.
The mods tried to follow the expansion rules to the letter of the NHL accept THAT it was deemed fair to only draft 2 goalies as opposed to 3 in the actual draft. So be it.
If team's have positioned themselves to be 100% exempt, so be it. I'm not drafting non NHL guys in a money league. Not going to do it, period. The spirit of the expansion draft can be tarnished, I'm fine with that, but there are certain things I'm not going to do, and that should not come as a surprise.
If anyone has comments on what I should be doing, all I can say is maybe they should have spent $100+ to experience it themselves, but since I'm the only one who did, I don't really want to type my feelings on guys opinions. It would not be PG-13 reading.
I got me. Everyone else should have themselves. Do what you do and there is no hard feelings on my end. I'm putting things on front street because that's what I'm supposed to do. :toast:

This league is loaded with different philosophies as to how to best build a team. I'm looking to build a franchise not a team. True league success starts with the farm system. To make it strong you need picks, assets (other minor league players) and lots of scouting (which I do). Your style is trading all your draft picks for viable NHL assets. There is nothing wrong with that, its just not my style. This will be my 3rd draft, by my 4th year my farm system
Should be feeding the big club with a player or 2 each year. I had an opportunity to grab a couple 4ths and reduce my cap space. So my point is everyone has value, it's up to you weather you see it or not. There is no ill will in my house, wish you nothing but luck.

Again, I am putting out there what I won't be doing, strategies/philosophies aside. If a guy isn't in the NHL he will not be drafted by Vegas. If that's all you have that's all you have.
I don't understand why anyone would take it personal. All I'm doing is responding to lists that are not realistic for an expansion draft but because this is fantasy there are team's that don't have exposable players.
I'm not drafting guys who play in Europe. Is that not understandable/reasonable???

Again, I am putting out there what I won't be doing, strategies/philosophies aside. If a guy isn't in the NHL he will not be drafted by Vegas. If that's all you have that's all you have.
I don't understand why anyone would take it personal. All I'm doing is responding to lists that are not realistic for an expansion draft but because this is fantasy there are team's that don't have exposable players.
I'm not drafting guys who play in Europe. Is that not understandable/reasonable???
