Title: Trade Deadline
Post by: snugerud on February 09, 2017, 11:00:17 AM
Just a thought.  Why not in future years push the trade deadline until about 1 or 2 weeks before playoffs.  This is fantasy hockey not the NHL we dont have to worry about uprooting nhl'ers lives.  also by putting closer to playoffs you might have more teams willing to spend for the push to win. I also think that by at least waiting until after the NHL's real trade deadline people are a little more rev'd up to make deals as well especially if you see some guys moved around during their deadline.

The only thing I like about where it's currently set is when a team is on the cusp of a playoff spot they kinda have to make their decision on whether to go for it or sell assets and work on next year.  Pushing it back seems to take away the benefit of selling, to an extent, as you have less time after the deadline to... sink.

I think this year is a little bit of an anomoly.  Usually teams ranked 7 through 13 are a lot closer than they are this year.

If your goal is sink , you can still make your deals early.  I dont see how pushing it back affects that other than it forces the decision.

By your logic, what's the point of having a trade deadline at all?

Does it typically prompt activity though?  I know it didn't this year, but like I said, this year was weird.

I think at least waiting until after the NHL's trade deadline would.  There are always a number of players on final years of their contract moved at deadline that would potential increase values in a deal. I know just on my team alone there is Doan, Callahan, Brown and Hanzel whose names are on the rumored trade block if they get moved to a different team that are contenders or use them in a different capacity they could have a different value.

I like the deadline where it is. I think this was just a very strange year...

I think by this point teams know if they are buying or selling.
Usually teams in the playoff mix don't want to sell too many good assets anyways, if they are just sneaking into playoffs.

The only suggestion I would have would be to make the deadline on a Sunday night, rather than (in this year's case) a Wednesday night.

I completely forgot about trading until yesterday, and even with that, I wasn't able to be online some parts of the evening because I was being an adult (this occasionally happens) and making/eating dinner with people.

Although maybe we can chalk it up as a weird year as others have said.
There is a clear top, middle and bottom tier this year, and I think the middle tier didn't really want to give up assets to try to compete, and would rather sit on those assets and give them another year to develop.

It seems like a lot of people are in Philly 76'ers mode, and "Trusting the Process" of their own teams while their young guys develop.
