Carolina confirms
Tough to give up a starting goalie but I got a good player and a couple of good prospects in return. Subban is a little bit suspect at this point but if he finds his game again it will be a great trade for me.
One factor in trading him was the expansion draft. Whoever takes over Vegas is going to look at my roster and realize there are slim pickings available so I would have been at risk to lose him. It would be devastating to lose this guy for nothing at this point of the rebuild. I would guess NJ wouldn't have to worry about this as much.

San Jose needed the cap space and Carolina's price was a 1st round pick. The sharks get the extra space to add the players they need to compete now and the Hurricane's continue to wait their turn.

Also Indians if u still plan on trading Hertl you shouldn't franchise him. Once you franchise someone you can't trade him the rest of the season.

Not desperate to move him I think he's legit but there's holes all over the roster so wiling to listen.

Carolina confirms:
We might have overpaid a little bit but I think it's a deal I had to make. Realistically it's going to be the 2018-19 season before Carolina is a player in this league and by then Smith will be 36 and in the last year of his contract. I tried to work out a similar deal with a couple of other teams but couldn't get it done.
I think this is a great trade for the blues. They're all in for this year. They'll be a tough out.
