OF is a position of need for the Marlins, and with its limited budget, the chances of adding OFs via free agency seems like a dubious proposition. Although OF Kevin Kiermaier and Brian Goodwin are not top tier players, they do help the Marlins field a competitive lineup. The Marlins are also acquiring two pitchers who are projected to fill the role of Long Relievers, which means they will probably get some starts during the season.
Miami is giving up SP Taillon, Jameson, $5.5m (2024), but as Brian mentioned, he will be out until 2021, as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, so his “dead money” helps offset the Kiermaier contract. Magneuris Sierra has shown flashes of talent, and Michael King is a promising prospect, but their departure helps the Marlins improve.
