Franchise GM: Original Rules / Draft Picks and Entry Draft
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:46:22 PM »
A.) Entry Draft Timing
1.) The annual entry draft starts at noon EST on the day after MLB's signing deadline for draftees.  Each GM will be given a maximum of eight hours to make their pick.  Once you make your pick, the eight hour clock starts for the next GM.  If you do not pick within that time frame then the following will happen.

2.) If you had supplied the EC with a pre-rankings list, then the best available signed player from such a list will be taken.  If no such list is available then the pre-draft ranking list of signed players that is used for the draft will determine which player is taken by your team.  At this point, you will be placed on an auto-draft list until you request to be off of such list.

B.) Trading Draft Picks
Trading of draft picks is not allowed.

C.) Entry Draft Contracts
Players drafted in the FGM entry draft will be given Prospect Contracts, (P-n/a),and can be placed on a teams MiLB roster or 40 man roster.

D.) How Draft Will Be Conducted

1.)  If a team is not present for the draft / times out, and did not provide a proxy pick, they'll be awarded the next highest ranked signed player, and then placed on auto-draft.
2.) The players ranking list is of the same order of Baseball America followed by the actual draft order.
3.) Entry Draft eligible players will consist of players who have been drafted and signed in the real life MLB Entry Draft.
4.) The Franchise GM Entry Draft will last 10 rounds, but teams are not required to make picks if they do not wish to make room on either their 40 man or MiLB rosters.
5.) Only players drafted and signed in the MLB Entry Draft will be eligible for the Franchise GM Entry Draft - foreign players and unprotected prospects will be handled via free agency (however foreign players may warrant consideration for an additional rule)
6.)  The 60-day no trade ruling is extended to include draftees.

Franchise GM: Original Rules / MLB Effects
« on: June 18, 2009, 01:42:57 PM »
Fantasy Baseball
Your player's stats come from what they actually do on a major league field.  Your role is General Manager, and your control over whether players start or not is dependent upon what happens in MLB.

MLB League Expansion, Contraction
In the event the fantasy league adds one or more franchise due to MLB expansion, an auction will take place for all new teams.  Each team must option at least one player with contract value at least as great as x% of the team payroll, where x = 1 over the # of teams in the league after expansion.  Also, each team must auction off as much of their team in addition to that.  The total market value of players made available in the auction draft must be at least 1-y/x% where y is original league size and x is new league size.   Players, when taken by an expansion team, are treated as new UFA.  Their previous contracts are null and void.

In the event of contraction, all players' contracts are null and void and they immediately become UFA.

  • Daddy: If i have 10 top level AA prospects each in the top 10 of the franchise vs one middle of the road pitcher like Cal Quantrill (or pick a guy) which one of those two packages are more valuable?

  • Daddy: If you think its the AA guys send me a pm.

  • Daddy: Also... Ive got a nice private island full of beautiful women to sell you. Pay me upfront and i will send you its coordinates. We call it the Virgin Daddy Islands. $5k reserves it for your future.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.
  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Yesterday at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Braves155: But I myself could use some time on a nudie island with some hot women
    Yesterday at 02:49:45 PM
  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.
  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Daddy: There shouldn't be many innings available in FA in dynasty fantasy leagues IMO. Thats guaranteed money! To hell with High A ball.
  • Daddy: Until someone starts a minor league baseball fantasy game or option. Maybe we can petition fantrax? I just dont think they will care for that.
  • Daddy: Neither should we (so much). Every league i see is MLB.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    Yesterday at 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    Yesterday at 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
