Traded to :MON-NHL: Habs
Robert Luongo, $6.1m (2018-2022)  Will get an immediate retirement BO
Seth Jones, $4.7m (2017-2020)
Round 2 - 2019 (from :PHI--NHL:)

Habs eat Bobby Lu's retirement cap hit but land some serious talent on the blueline as compensation with Jones and add a 2nd Rd pick. PPG/Flyers to put their stamp of apprival on this deal.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::iatp: There's always a price to pay to eat that much cap. Taking $6.1m on a regular contract is a big hit. Turning that into a $9.8m BUYOUT is huge so getting a top defender like Jones and a higher pick is fair value here. Sad to see Luongo hang 'em up.

That's what I thought. The price should've been higher because Philadelphia has no room for any moves but we're getting a player we like with plenty of upside. What's not to like.

This is a win-win as Luongo's large retirement Buy-Out would not have taken place in Philadelphia given the limited cap space the Flyers were working with. Montreal clearly benefits by taking on the Buy-Out and clearing it from their account within 1.5 months while acquiring a young high-end defenseman in Seth Jones plus a 2nd Round Draft pick. Well done to both teams.

Well Philly didn't have a choice but to move that dead contract. Just happy I could move it out before the new season. :toast:
