Franchise GM: Rules Changes / FYPD Rule Change Request
« on: November 18, 2021, 01:23:49 PM »
At the present time, our First Year Player Draft (FYPD) has a 12 hour clock for the 1st Round.  Then, in Rounds 2-10, it goes to an 8 hour clock.  Since there is no clock stoppage during the night, there are many times when someone gets a draft clock that expires during the wee hours of the night.  This often places the person On the Clock in a precarious position because their turn comes up at a time when they are probably sleeping.

I realize that there is no sure fire remedy, because with 30 GMs living in different time zones, Eastern Time deadlines literally fall at different times.  I live on the West Coast in Goleta, CA, and there is a 3 hour difference between ET and PT, so I can give auto picks to teams whose clocks expire In the early morning hours.  I have resigned myself, as the Draft Moderator, to having irregular sleeping habits during the draft to make sure it keeps going.  I willingly do this and I am not mentioning it to gain sympathy.  I believe that in order to run an effective draft, PMs must go out in a timely manner and the Draft Board has to be updated regularly.

There are times, particularly after GMs start opting out of the draft, where things move swiftly.  There we?re two instances when this happened during the 2021 draft, and in both cases I was able to accommodate the parties involved because it didn?t really affect the flow or integrity of the draft.

All that said, I propose going to a 12 hour clock for the entire draft.  Clock expirations lead to a team being placed on Autopick and that essentially safeguards the draft from dragging on.  During our recent draft, teams were on Autopick at their request, and often times, for those who were given an Autopick as the result of a clock expiation, I gave them another opportunity to make their own picks in the next round before placing them on Autopick.  With that, any team on Autopick can always request to be taken off Autopick and placed back in the draft rotation.

A 12 hour clock will not really extend the draft that much.  Many of you, once receiving a PM that you are On the Clock, jump onboard and post your pick.  In recent years, by the 5th Round, the participating teams shrink in number and the draft moves rather quickly.

Please post your thoughts on whether we should go to a 12 hour clock for the entire FYPD.  If 7 other GMs voice their support, then I will put the proposal up as a referendum for a league wide vote.

GMs,

Although I will periodically check the Draft Board on my phone, for the most part, I will be unavailable during the day (12:00 pm ET - 8:00 pm ET).  I will be on the road for about 4 of those hours and won?t be checking the Board at all.  If you draft a player, alert the next GM that they are on the clock via PM.  You can see who is up next in the Draft Order Post.

If someone has let their time slip away, go ahead and post your pick and inform the next GM.

Thanks!

Ernie - Flash

Pirates trade:
MI Arteaga, Aeverson, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Giants trade:
MI Leonard, Eddys, $0.5m (P-n/a)
C O'Hoppe, Logan, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Just a minor deal for each team where we swap prospects.  Something of a homer trade for the Giants, Aeverson Arteaga is an international prospect that is moving up the Giants prospect ladder.  I may regret trading away O?Hoppe with Buster retiring and, along with Leonard, but I believe Arteaga will get to the majors in a few years.

Pirates to confirm.

Franchise GM: GM & Team News / Astros are available
« on: November 04, 2021, 11:28:01 PM »
It seems that the illustrious GM of the Astros has decided to abandon his team.  He has not logged onto the ProFSL site since August 27th and has not  responded to any of my communications.  As recently as yesterday, I sent him a PM asking if he is still interested in being a part of FGM.  He did not respond and today I had to autopick his 1st round draft pick.

So, as of today, the Astros are available and in need of a replacement GM.  If you are reading this and interested in taking over the team, please PM me or post a reply to this post.  In the meantime, the Astros will be subject to league proprietorship.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Yesterday at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    Yesterday at 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    Yesterday at 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
