Pittsburgh Pirates
2021:
4th in NL Central (44-118)
The
were more competitive in the second half of the 2021 season. The team added some free agents and some promising prospects during the second half of the season and hopefully 2022 will see more improvement. The
need to add some pitching during the upcoming free agency period and has some cap to add some arms.
2020:
6th in Eastern Division (24-36)
There were positive signs that the Pirates are on the road to improvement. Their 6th place finish in the Eastern Division translated into 17th overall rank within FGM. The Pirates acquired some free agents to improve its lineup and made a late season trade to acquire some much needed starting pitching.
2019:
4th in NL Central (22-140)
The Pirates again tumbled into the NL Central cellar. Once again, the absence of competitive assets is at the heart of the Pirates lack of success and there is a lot of room for improvement.
2018:
4th in NL Central (51-111)
The Pirates had a bit of a resurgence in 2018. Winning some 39 more games than the season before, the Pirates were able to climb into 4th place in the NL Central Division.
2017:
5th in NL Central (12-150)
The Pirates woes continued, but they did draft some valuable prospects that should brighten up their future. With that, the Pirates again finished at the bottom of the NL Central Division and need some boosts throughout their lineup and rotation.
2016:
5th in NL Central (27-130)
The Pirates added a few players through free agency. There was an improvement in the win column, but alas, the Pirates fished 102 games out of 1st in the NL Central.
2015:
5th in NL Central (6-84)
The Pirates plummeted to the bottom of FGM with their single digit win season. The Pirates have a lot of holes to fill, and with a sizable amount of cap available going into the offseason, hopefully, the Pirates can begin to experience some success.
2014:
5th in NL Central (29-112)
Alas, the 2014 season was not kind to the Pirates. The wins decreased and they again found themselves at the bottom of the NL Central. Hopefully, some of the farmhands will begin to develop as the team needs a lot of help throughout its lineup.
2013:
5th in NL Central (40-101)
The Pirates continued their free fall and tumbled into the cellar of the NL Central. With a lot of holes in their lineup, the Pirates will seek to rebuild and compete in the coming years.
2012:
4th in NL Central (84-78)
Despite finishing lower in the division and having 11 less wins, Pittsburgh was closer to the playoffs in 2012. Wieters, Swisher, and Ethier were a core that could win a game any night. Sadly, after only a couple years of playing together, only Wieters would stay on for the 2013 season. Other talented veterans left Pittsburgh as the team couldn't afford to keep everyone. What the future brings is a bit of an unknown as the farm system is weak and talent is leaving.
2011:
3rd in NL Central (95-67)
Pittsburgh had a winning record for the first time in 19 years. The 20 game improvement was due to the acquisition of high priced veterans such as Todd Helton, Matt Holliday, and Andre Ethier. Holliday, Helton, and many others were dealt at the trade deadline as Pittsburgh was too far back from the runaway Cardinals and Brewers. Pittsburgh's 2011 season was a sign of good things to come with losing now in the past.
2010:
5th in NL Central (75-87)
The off-season started with goals of playing for 0.500 as the Pirates made deals that obtained Aaron Hill, Adam Jones, Brian Bannister, Austin Jackson and Brian McCann. With free agency came Joe Saunders, super prospect Aroldis Chapman, and many other prospects. Many of those players were flipped for others the team started the season with a dismal record. The Pirates eventually caught up in the overall standings, but not in the tough NL Central. The team made big time mid-year acquisitions of Ryan Zimmerman, Billy Butler, Brett Cecil, and Johnny Cueto that management hopes will guide them to a winning record in 2011.
2009:
5th in NL Central (69-93)
Colby started this league because he was fed up with his favorite team. Although he knew McLouth wasn't a great outfielder, he felt the team could have had a better return. Winning wasn't an option in 2009, and he did not decide to blow the team up as most would. He sold off the same players that the Pirates did, and in return picked up players that may have higher ceilings.

Risky business. Almost all NFL Drafted players see the field and some are instant stars (Puca Nacua) as you know. Its the only draft where the entire draft helps out.
