I am not in favor of increasing the cap other than minor inflation increases that mirror the NHL.

We drafted our rosters with the 59m cap in mind, and signed extensions based on this.  This is not a rule
that can be changed at this point without blowing it up and starting over.  If you increase by 20 or 30 mil
that would change the approach to how we set up our teams.

I know some teams got stuck because of the auto draft, as the computer didn't pay attention to cap
hits when drafting, just best available player.  But I think most of us who did attend the draft, drafted
with the 59m cap in mind.
That is a good point, teams probably would have drafted completely different. I know I would have taken a shot at the high salary players more, like the low drafted Thornton or Malkin because of their high salaries. It could have also been that these high salary players could have gone to free agency then their contracts could be half of what they actually are.

Amiss my rambling I could propose this, players who are over 7m per year could be dropped for free by their team. Then they go to free agency. Just putting this out there, not saying this will happen.

From a personal note, I do not approve of this... I wanted one of these high salary players on my team, and I worked to make him fit under his current salary. Doing this will not be fair to the teams who want to keep their top end players and have been able to fit them under the cap. If you want them, make it work or wait until they drop into free agency (P.S. I heard Big Buff is available next year).... Use your brain a little, guys.

As CBJ stated, we knew the rules going in. And if we drastically change them now (aka adding more salary or dropping high salary guys into free agency for free), than we might as well start all over (and you can bet I am first picking a goalie this time lol).

We need to keep the cap the way it is.  That is my opinion.

Thank you favo! Ya I was just putting that out there didn't have an intention of actually putting it through unless there is full league approval. Yes all of us had to make decisions already involving who to keep and who to let go. So players like Bogosion and Stafford are young guys for me that were too much to extend, so they are heading to free agency. Weber was a guy who I couldn't part with so I re-signed him and worked my team from there. If cap is raised up too much there will never be any turn over because you will always have to retain your players. Teams in the NHL have problems re-signing players also, see Chicago this off-season.

I agree with CBJ, I drafted with the cap in mind. I had to rework my team to get my core of players such as dropping Cammy & Pitkanen ( and a certain someone picked up Cammy) but the Cap should stay where it is. My 2  cents :judge:

Will the 40 games played rule be applied to the prospects that we signed through the FA??
For example, if I were to send down Pickard, his salary will not count towards my cap. If his contract ends this year do I have to call him up again to resign him to a new contract?? But he has never played an NHL game, much less reach the 40 game maximum.
I dont know if I explained that right but that just came to me today.

Only players that have been drafted by that team, that is without an * are available for the 40 games played rule. Prospects not drafted and signed through free agency would have to be called up (through re-entry waivers) then signed to a contract if made through waivers. It is just the risk you take signing prospects that haven't played a game yet.

Would you guys really draft differently if the cap was 3-5 million more??? 3-5 million would help resigning and not make it so that there is no turn over. I don't think the cap should be raised by more then that but I know that 3-5 million would help so much and not make it overly unrealistic. I mean we are going to baseball playoffs so already we are not like the real NHL so what would a few million more on the cap hurt??????

I have to say I would have drafted a person with a higher salary earlier and so may have others so the whole draft could have changed. I can't change cap mid-season anyway too. Also people have already made choices on who to let go and who to re-sign. Choices just have to be made and a core of players will always be held onto. I think is cap is fine and should mimic the actual NHL, yes the NHL has more teams but we have less players per team as well.
