Field of Dreams: Rules / Free Agency - MLB, International & Minor League
« on: October 24, 2023, 01:58:42 PM »
Free Agency

.500K > 4m = 1 year contract
4.1m > 9m = 1 or 2 year contract
9.1m > 21m = 1 to 3 year contract
21.1m > 50m = 1 to 4 year contract
51.1m > = 1 to 5 year contract

MLB & International players:

Free agents consist of MLB, Minor League and International players.   When posting a MLB or International player you will create a new thread in the Open Transactions with the following.
1.  name the thread the players name and team he plays for or if he is a free agent in MLB then use NA
2.  Bid amount in the body of the thread.
3.  Opening bid amount must be a minimum amount of .500K for MLB or International Players

No more than 5 open high bids by any GM at any time.

When bidding on players any additional bid must be in increments of .100K.   Once the bid stands for 24 hours then the bid will be sticky and the winning GM will have 24 hours to offer contract.   If after 24 hours no contract has been offered the player will either

A. offered to the next highest bid.
B. Be returned to free agency.

Minor League players

Minor league players will be posted in the same manner as MLB and International and all rules will apply as posted above.
A.  Any player that is eligible to be in the minor leagues is considered a P contract, or Rookie contract.   There are two contracts.  First are players that have no major league experience.   Those contracts are automatically a five year contact.
B.  All rookies receive a contract of .300K
C.  When replying or upping a minor league bid this is considered a 1 time bonus paid to the player.   All increments must be in .100K.
example.   Player X winning bid is P plus 3.5 million the 3.5m is paid in the current year only and you must have the budget for that player.   This can not be spread out.  If the player is dropped then the salary is only paid by the team that won the bid.   If the player is traded the money follows the player to the new team treaded too.
D.  All minor league players with any major league experience can only be signed year to year and will only have a 1 year contract.

International Players

International players will be treated as MLB roster players only.   All international players that are signed via teams through the international signing bonuses will be bid on just like any MLB players.   They will be eligible to be placed in the minor league system for as long as they are eligible to be there on Fantrax.

Field of Dreams: Rules / Contract Extensions in final year
« on: October 24, 2023, 01:55:59 PM »
Contract extensions

Contract extensions can be offered to any player on a MLB or a Minor league contract between November 1st and November 30th by midnight EST.   Any player not offered extensions will be removed from rosters by the commissioner or his representatives on December 1st and players will be considered free agents.

Posting of Free Agents

On September 1st and Before November 1st the commissioner or his representatives will post in a new thread all teams pending free agents.

Formula for player extensions

Minor League Player extensions

If you have a minor league player that is on his final year of his minor league contract he must follow under the following rules and guidelines.   The player must still be eligible to remain in the minor leagues on Fantrax.   If he is eligible then he can only be extended for a max of 1 year at time.   His cost is a flat .500K for the year.   Once he maxed out his minor league 5 year contract and is not eligible to remain on Fantrax minor league system he must be extended using the major league guidelines.

Major League Player extensions

1.  MLB contract extensions can not exceed 3 years.
2.  Hitters are all lumpted together and not separated by position
3.  SP are only for players marked as SP and SP/RP on Fantrax
4   RP pitchers are only for pitchers that have holds and saves

The maximum dollar amount that players can make is is $13m and the minimum $1m.  For scoring ranking go to Fantrax > Players > select your team > current year and get the number and then the prior year and get that number.   Add both numbers together and divide by 2 >. Use the divided number to determine salary

For extensions you look at the current year rankings and the prior year rankings.   If this year the player ranked number 47 in his position and the prior year he ranked 22 then you add for total of 69.  Divide 69 / 2 = 34.5.  Go to the rankings below and find the years and salary for 34.5

Examples:

Hitting example: Lets say Max Muncy Dodgers is in the last year of his contact and you want to extend him.   You can extend him for 1 to 3 years.  In 2022 his score was 1193 and in 2021 it was 1529.  Add the 2 numbers / 2 = 1361.  Go to the hitters below and look for the salary associated with 69.2.  So you can extend him for 1 to 3 years and he will make $10m per year.

SP example:  Lets say Sandy Alcantra MIA in 2022 scored 1947 in 2021 was 1692.   add the two numbers / 2 for a number of 1819.50.  So you can extend him 1 to 3 years for $13m per year.

RP example.  I will use Chris Martin ATL.   In 2022 scored 631 and in 2021 371. Take the last two years.  add the two numbers / 2 for a number of 501.  So you can extend him 1 to 3 years for $5m per year.

Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Archives / Amateur Draft
« on: August 21, 2013, 07:58:19 PM »
ABL will have an annual 5 round Amateur Entry Draft.  This draft will likely be done in the first week of November.  No players may be selected who have not signed a MLB contract.  Also newly drafted players in the MLB draft are not eligible via free agency until after our entry draft is complete.

Commissioner will post a list of avialable players to be selected and only those players can be selected.

Trading Draft Picks
Trading of draft picks is allowed however as soon as the draft starts there is no more trading of draft picks.

How Draft Will Be Conducted
If a team is not present for the draft / times out, and did not provide a proxy pick, they'll be awarded the next highest ranked player that they can afford, and then placed on auto-draft.
The players ranking list is of the same order of Baseball America followed by the actual draft order.
The Entry Draft will only have players who are eligible for the real life MLB Entry Draft.

Draft Order
Draft order will be based off of record.  The worst team by record gets the first pick all the way to the top team getting the last pick.  Tiebreakers will be determined by last years record.  If two teams have identical records the previous years record will be looked at and the team with the worse record will have higher priority.

 • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

 • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

 • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

 • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

 • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
