Title: 8 - Extensions
Post by: Drew on January 21, 2011, 02:28:39 AM
A) Extensions
Teams may offer players extensions during the extension period (See Deadlines).  Contract value must be equal to or higher than the highest ‘position ranking/dollar value’ within the past two seasons (current and last season).  If a player has two positions, the contract must be equal to, or greater than, the higher salary of the two positions.  Extensions must still follow contract rules regarding contract length.

Only players in the final year of their current contract are eligible for extensions.  All contract extensions begin at the conclusion of their current contract and will be calculated against cap starting on July 1st.

Example:
If the Oilers want to resign Patrick Sharp.  In the 2009-2010 season, Sharp scored 153.6 Fantasy Points (FP), ranking him 19th overall center and 12th overall at left wing (because he is a dual position player).  In the 2010-2011 season, Sharp had 169.3 FP, ranking him 9th overall center and 5th overall at left wing.  Therefore I use the 2010-11 season and find the contract value for the 5th left wing.  Therefore, Patrick Sharp must make at least $7.9m per season of the extension. These values will be tracked through fantrax. These contract will have years that follow the chart below:

Maximum Years
</= $2.9m, 2 years
$3.0m - $6.4m, 3 years
>$6.5m, 4 years
Contracts can be less in length then the given values but can't exceed the given years. Ex. a 9 million free agent bid can be a 3 year - $3m, 2 year - $4.5m, or a 1 year - $9m but can not be a 4 year - $2.3m
Note: Maximum dollars for a single season is $10m

Therefore Patrick Sharp could be signed for up to 4 years at $7.9m a season but could sign a 1, 2 or 3 year deal as well and would be seen on the ProFSL roster as, Patrick Sharp $7.9m (2014-15)

Minor Leaguers:
GMs can not sign experienced minor leaguers or players with a * next to their name to extensions. They have to be called up before they are signed to a contract.
