« on: August 11, 2012, 01:16:40 PM »
Senators continue to clean house and have decided to part ways and buyout the contracts of depth players in anticipation of future trades and Free Agent signings. We're keeping ourselves busy.
Michael Blunden for $0.1m (2012-13)
Derek Smith for $0.1m (2012-13)

Franchise NHL: Completed Transactions / Sens reach a deal with Sharks
« on: August 11, 2012, 01:05:52 PM »
Ottawa announces a trade with San Jose. MacArthur's contract is a little hefty for what
he brings but that's the price of a scoring winger and Niederreiter balances the deal. My Sens wanted some producing wingers now as we want to contend this season and need to balance out our roster, while the Sharks wanted some d-men so we shipped them 3 good to great ones in Boyle, Hamonic and stud prospect Murphy. I guess Boyle was destined to go home to San Jose.

To OTT
D Marc Staal, $4.0m (2012-2013)
RW Nino Niederreiter, $0.2m (2013-2014)
LW Clarke MacArthur, $4.7m (2012-2013)

To SJ
D Dan Boyle, $6.7m (2013-2014)
D Travis Hamonic, $4.7m (2014-2015)
RW Casey Wellman, $0.2m (2013-2014)
D - Ryan Murphy (2011: 1/12 - 0 Games)

Sharks to confirm this trade. Thanks Burkes Boys!

Franchise NHL: Completed Transactions / Sens and Devils reach a deal
« on: August 08, 2012, 12:35:29 PM »
Ottawa announces a trade with jackdaniels's Devils.

We approached the Devils and a few other teams about moving young prospect defensemen Scandella and Wiercioch as we were looking to make room for newly acquired free agent defenseman Adam McQuaid. Devils were the only team to reply and we quickly expanded the deal to address team needs on both sides.

The keys to this trade are Timonen, Wedgewood leaving Ottawa and Stalberg, Nikitin moved by Jersey.

Dealt to New Jersey
Defense Kimmo Timonen, $6.3m (2012-2013)
Defense Patrick Wiercioch, $0.8m (2013-2014)
Defense Marco Scandella, $0.9m (2013-2014)
Goalie Andrew Raycroft, $1.5m (2013-2014)
Goalie Scott Wedgewood, $0.2m (2013-2014)

Coming to Ottawa
Left Wing Viktor Stalberg, $2.2m (2013-2014)
Defense Nikita Nikitin, $0.2m (2012-2013)
Goalie Curtis McElhinney, $1.5m (2013-2014)

My Sens gain some roster space by making this trade while Jersey adds some players and cap to reach the floor. The Devils are in rebuilding mode while my Sens are looking to contend this season.

Good negotiations JD! Devils to confirm.

That's right, that's what I said "Trade Cherry!"

Ottawa is pleased to announce a trade with new :NYI: GM. Senators send red hot scoring prospect

C - Mika Zibanejad (2011: 1/6 - 9 Games)

In return for, Islanders send over a defenseman due to receive a sizable raise starting in 2012-13

Niklas Kronwall, $3.0m (2011-2012) - Expires 8/4/2012 23 or 21  ext 5.7 / 4yrs

We like Kronwall's potential upside with Lidstrom's retirement and understand the injury risk with him and the new big cap hit we'll take on. Even though there was the possibility of added Nick via Free agency we wanted to ensure Nick joined our team for the upcoming season.

Parting with Zibby is tough as he'll be a force when he joins the parent club in a top 6 role, but we see the addition of Nick as a way to speed up our rebuilding process.

Thanks for the excellent trade negotiations Snugerud! :toast:

:NYI: to confirm.

Hi All,

I'm on the road for work over the next few days with limited to no Internet access and expect to be back by August 1 if not sooner.

Pigs has a pre-ranked list of players from us for the draft so it shouldn't be held up by Ottawa.

  • Daddy: If i have 10 top level AA prospects each in the top 10 of the franchise vs one middle of the road pitcher like Cal Quantrill (or pick a guy) which one of those two packages are more valuable?

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Agreed. But most does not equal all.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    May 05, 2024, 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
    May 05, 2024, 04:35:28 PM
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
    May 05, 2024, 05:57:14 PM
  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
    May 05, 2024, 06:02:39 PM
  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.
    May 05, 2024, 06:20:28 PM
  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
    May 05, 2024, 06:22:29 PM
  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
