Title: Prize for FNHL Division Winners: Draft Pick
Post by: jackdaniels on February 28, 2018, 12:08:59 PM
Just a thought but what about an extra draft pick or supplemental pick for the Division winners in the future? Add those to the end of the draft. Gives the winners a little something extra.

That could be something that works. Let's see if other gents want to put it to a vote. :judge:

I would say Supplemental pick would be the call here. As a GM who values draft picks, i believe the entry draft pick is far more valuable. Now the Supplemental pick could be a faster turn around to the FNHL roster.

I like the idea of the last 4 picks in the draft going to the division winners. Those picks are not valuable enough to change anything, and gives the teams that put in work during the season a reward, as only 1 team gets the real reward right now. Drafting a lotto ticket may not be a great reward, but its something.

Do you mean the four division winners being given one extra pick at the end of round 4? I would be on board for that. I would also support a supplemental pick in the center of the supp draft, or at the end.

I support this idea of awarding a draft pick to Division winners. It is a small recognition but one that notes an owner's season-long accomplishment.

My preference would be for a draft pick to be used at the end of the Entry Draft for a player that is first year eligible or a prospect with some games played. There is more value in that type of pick and the timing would work well.

I went through a past 4th round of a draft (2012) and found that 1/3 of the players to be useful assets. That may be an outliner(?), but I like the end of the 4th round. On top of that, there is a history of late picks working out (Zetterburg/Datsyuk/Hornqvist to name a few).

I like the suggestion as well.

Gents in FNHL know their prospects and can find some gems making these newly awarded picks valuable. Some owners are like pro-level GMs and Directors of Player Development here.

Keep the comments coming gents! :judge:

I support the awarding draft pick to Division winners. It makes it a little more interesting for competitive teams without watering down the prize pool.

I'm likely not getting any Division Champ award anytime soon. It's going to be good to award something to the Division Champs moving fwd. But like someone else said, don't dilute the prize pool until it goes north of a grand.

A draft pick awarded to each division winner seems reasonable. Perhaps sandwich them between the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Otherwise at the end of the 4th round seems good too.

I'd rather see the division winners get like a 5 point home ice advantage in the first round over the wildcards than draft picks but if you are going to do draft picks why not:

Presidents Trophy Winner-Pick between the first and second round
Next Highest Division Winner-Pick between the second and third round
Next Highest Division Winner-Pick between the third and fourth round
Weakest Div Winner- Pick at the end of the fourth round

I think this is a decent idea but would take lots of manual change on fantrax to make happen unless the commish pauses the draft at the right time and the pick is manually entered by the commish to remove the prospect from the draft player pool.

If we're voting :NYR: and :NAS: both agree awarding a draft pick to division winners is a good thing.

As BB said it can work manually with pauses to draft/remove prospect from the draft pool.
Is it too much? Maybe. Likely not.
I don't want to intro more work. My salary is the same, zero. LOL

Winning the Division means you're likely playing a weaker 1st Rd opponent so that's already a reward for Div champs. Unless you're the Pacific Div champ the past 2 seasons LOL
