Arizona Diamondbacks History :ARZ:

2021: 4th in NL West (42-120)
The :ARZ: embarked on a full scale rebuild.  Trading away the few veterans on the roster for a plethora of prospects, the :ARZ: really had a tough time fielding an everyday lineup.  :ARZ: did secure some bonafide assets through free agency, but with a limited budget, the rebuilding process will take some shrewd and efficient moves to improve in 2022.

2020: 9th in NL Western Division  (11-49)
The D-Backs entered the season shorthanded - with many holes in their daily lineup and few SPs and RPs.  This talent deficit was exasperated by the GM being MIA for the entire short season. As such, the D-Backs brass decided there had to be an GM change.  Beginning this offseason, the D-Backs will be under new management.

2019: 5th in NL West (19-143)
The :ARZ: slipped into fantasy purgatory during the 2019 campaign.  With a depleted lineup that had a lot of holes, the :ARZ: could not compete with the other teams in the NL West and finished in the cellar once again.  The :ARZ: multi-year slide into oblivion will only stop if the GM finds a way to add some capable players through free agency and trade or through the development of their MiLB roster.  Regardless, the road to success is steep for the :ARZ: as the NL West is one of the most competitive in the entire league.

2018: 5th in NL West (38-124)
The :ARZ: finished in the NL West cellar again as they failed to improve their lineup through free agency or via trades.  Hopefully, GM MOLI643 will find some magic in the coming season to revitalized their team and become competitive in the NL West.

2017: 5th in NL West (38-124)
The Diamondbacks finished at the bottom of the NL West for the second season in a row.  The D-Backs do have a core of SPs in Johnny Cueto, Jose Quintana, and Martin Perez, but their everyday lineup is not yet to a competitive level.  The D-Backs feature OFs Byron Buxton and Nick Markakis, along with CI Yoan Morcada, but their overall lineup has a ways to go to be competitive in the NL West.

2016: 5th in NL West (42-1115)
The Diamondbacks are in the midst of a rebuild and simply do not have enough productive players to compete in the NL West.  With some young players on the horizon, the D-Backs have to wait on their development and add some key players through free agency.

2015: 4th in NL West (49-41)
The Diamondbacks have some key pieces in CI Paul Goldschmidt, CI Mark Teixeria, and OF Nick Markakis, but they also have some holes in their everyday lineup.  With that, they have some strong SP in Max Scherzer, Scott Kazmir, Mark Buehrle, and Carlos Carrasco, but without a competitive core of hitters, it is going to be hard for the D-Backs to do much in the NL West.

2014: 4th in NL West (41-100)
The Diamondbacks finished fourth in the NL West once again, but improved their record by losing 13 less games.  Marlon Byrd joined the Diamondbacks, and along with Paul Goldschmidt and Nick Markakis, helped the Diamondbacks lineup.  The Diamondbacks pitching staff featured Max Scherzer, Mark Buerhle, Ubaldo Jimenez, and Scott Kazmir, with Francisco Rodriguez in the bullpen.  The Diamondbacks continue to hope for improvement in the 2015 campaign.

2013: 4th in NL West (47-113)
Although the Diamondbacks finished 4th in the NL West again, their record slipped as they lost 113 games.  Their lineup was led Angel Pagan and Paul Goldschmidt, with some help from Nick Markakis, and their pitching staff was anchored by Max Scherzer and Mark Buerhle.

2012: 4th in NL West (69-93)
The Diamondbacks had a tough year in 2012 posting their first losing record in FGM history.  The team had inconsistent play from its top starters and little depth, but there were bright spots with the emergence of Paul Goldschmidt and Angel Pagan.

2011: 3rd in NL West (87-75)
Arizona had its third winning season in a row in the FGM universe thanks much in part to All-star CI-OF Jose Bautista.  The team traded away Jose prior to the deadline, but was firmly entrenched in 3rd place behind the Dodgers and Rockies.  Much of Arizona's future success depends on how its veteran pitching staff and high price position players such as Michael Young and Nick Markakis perform.

2010: 2nd in NL West (84-78)
The 2010 season had a rough start for the Diamondbacks.  In the offseason, new GM Anthony Ramirez made some tough trades to put the Diamondbacks in a good financial position.  Such trades came with a price tag as Dan Haren, Justin Upton, and Chris Young were sent packing.

He did give the next GM, Lucas Lima, plenty of draft picks and young players under good contracts after signing Reynolds and acquiring Ubaldo Jimenez and Carlos Gonzalez.  Lucas made a couple moves to fix up the roster but eventually left the team uncared for.  This led to his firing in mid-May when the team had only one winning week on its record.

Omar Molina took over GM duties that June for a struggling Diamondbacks team.  Despite limited batting power, the Diamondbacks were built by the previous management teams on pitching.  This led to some 2nd half success for the Diamondbacks who were able to repeat their record from 2009.

2009: 3rd in NL West (84-78)
The team made little effort in its first season and even lost out on Miguel Montero in the initial 40-man claim.  Still, Arizona managed to finish the season with a winning record.

Billy M(Billy) [9/1/20 - Present]
Omar Molina (MOLI643) [6/3/10 - 9-1-20 ]
Lucas Lima (Lucas Lima  #52) [12/21/09 - 5/17/10]
Anthony Ramirez (The Cutter) [10/16/09 - 12/14/09]
Joseph Ray (Boondock Saints) [7/1/09 - 10/2/09]

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    Today at 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.
  • Braves155: But I myself could use some time on a nudie island with some hot women
    Today at 02:49:45 PM
  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.
