Title: DISCUSSION: FNHL TRADE DEADLINE BEFORE OR AFTER NHL's
Post by: Burkes Boys on February 03, 2020, 10:24:41 AM
Does it make more sense to have the FNHL trade deadline after the NHL's annual trade deadline?

Thought it would be worth discussing.

In a way, it could generate more activity. Moderately more.
But then again, in recent years, it seems most NHL GMs have made their deadline deals during the days leading up to the deadline, that's a function of the cap world we live in.

Personally I like having the FNHL deadline before the NHL deadline.

As you said, most deals take place during the days leading up to the deadline and I feel it adds an element of mystery to our FNHL trades and playoff races when NHL deadline deals have the potentially to alter the chemistry of our league rosters.

It's a good question and worth a league wide discussion.

Like it before the trade deadline, as makes trades more interesting in that they could go either way, with just one player getting moved to another team and getting more TOI, could easily push it in favour of one team.

Just look at JT Miller last year 3rd line on Tampa and low PP time if at all and 71st LW on fantrax, gets traded to Vancouver in the summer and placed on the Lotto Line (Petey, Brock and JT) and given 1PP time and now 10th LW.

I'm for keeping our FNHL trade deadline before. There's more intrigue for our owners when the NHL GMs can impact our races with a deadline deal move. That's part of fantasy excitement in my books.

So far owners feel we have a good thing here in FNHL with our trade deadline happening just before the NHL's trade deadline. :toast:
