Title: 2020-2021 Playoff Adjustment
Post by: Vik on December 16, 2020, 06:16:10 PM
Due to 72 game season and 21 week scoring period instead of 23 (this was last full season 2018-2019) I think we need to adjust playoffs slightly.

Please review and quick yes or no vote. If you vote no happy to hear feedback what you think might be better.

While a 2 weeks finals would be nice it would be at expense of cutting the regular season shorter or adjusting the amount of teams making it. Neither of these things is something I like but figured make it fair allow for feedback before finalize (tentatively matchups are set with final 4 weeks playoffs to align with proposal)

Proposed playoff change for this year only

Playoffs

14 out of 20 teams will make the playoffs:
- The top-5 seeds in each conference
- 4 Wild-Card spots, which are the 4 next best teams regardless of conference
- The 1st Seed in each Conference will be rewarded with a 1st Round BYE

The Playoffs last a total of 4 weeks (with only 1 week finals matchup).

Round 1 Matchups (Scoring period 18 - April 19th to April 25th):
1st West - Bye  /  1st East - Bye
2nd W vs. WC 3 /  2nd E vs. WC 4
3rd W vs. WC 2  /  3rd E vs. WC 1
4th W vs. 5th W  /  4th E vs. 5th E

Round 2: Highest seeds play lowest seeds (Scoring period 19 - April 26th to May 2nd)
Example Round 2 Matchups:
1st W vs. 4th W  /  1st E vs. 5th E
2nd W vs. 3rd W  /  2nd E vs. 3rd E

Round 3: Conference Finals (Scoring period 20 - May 3rd to May 9th)
ie. 1st W vs. 2nd W  /  2nd E vs. 5th E

Round 4: Finals (Single week matchup - Scoring period 21 - May 10th to May 16th)
ie. 1st W vs 2nd E
