Title: The State of the League
Post by: Flash on October 09, 2017, 10:25:11 PM
League Members,

It’s a bit distressing to report that after contracting the league for the 2017 season, we are again facing a shortage of interested participants.  Eleven of our sixteen GMs, including me, have indicated they are willing to be a part of the league for the 2018 season.

The :BOS: GM, bap9, has opted out and will not return. The :LAA: GM, Tarheels55, has vanished from ProFSL and has been removed from a variety of leagues, so its rather dubious for us to think he will return to WCB2 next season.

The remaining three:
:TB: - cheesesteak,  :TOR: - frankbullsfan, :WAS: - DeanO22 -
Have not responded to any of my PMs or e-mails.  One GM, frankbullsfan, seems to have obviously be disinterested because he has posted a commitment to return to other ProFSL leagues.  Not sure what to say about cheesesteak or DeanO22, other than they’ve given no indication of wanting to continue.

So where does that leave WCB2?  We could contract again, to 12 teams, with six teams in each division, with the top 4 teams in each division making the playoffs, and maybe expanding the MLB roster to 32 players.
Or we can try and recruit five new members, which many of you know is not an easy thing to do—or we could simply call it quits and concentrate on our other leagues.

What is your pleasure?

I'd prefer not to contract again.  We would all have all star teams and it wouldn't be as fun.  I know recruiting is hard as well.  I'd be ok calling it quits in this league if we had to.

Via PM, both Teton, :CHC:, and indiansnation, :COL:, have indicated they would like to have a 12 team league if the open spots can't be filled.  That still would leave us with one open spot, possibly two if :PHI: chooses to opt out as indicated by his post.

Please feel free to comment.

It's early. I say we wait until Spring and see if we can recruit GMs. If not I agree with Papps- Contraction at this point would be crazy

There's no need to contract. I will recruit outside of here for this league.

So we have 4 openings right now?

OK, I can recruit for these as the off-season just started.

If we go down to 12 teams, what are your thoughts on changing the format and making it a redraft league?

We are going to maintain our 16 team format.  The idea of contraction was not fully endorsed by all, and with three openings to fill, I’m sure we’ll be able to fill our league.  Personally, I’m not a fan of re-draft leagues.

This weekend, I will begin posting on various sites about our 3 openings. We will fill these easily. I don't mean to boast, but I am the best I've ever seen at recruiting for fantasy openings. I did it here a ton in the past as well as at Corey's crap show of a site.

I will market the league as being stable, updates happen very quickly, and Flash is an excellent commissioner which he is. That alone will draw people to joining us. It's still real early, but with the World Series starting, it's a perfect time to begin recruiting for these openings.
