Title: Montreal - St.Louis TRADE
Post by: ripper on January 31, 2017, 11:05:07 AM
Please read carefully as we are not trying to trick anyone or be apart of any collusion.

St.Louis get:
G- Devan Dubnyk $8.9M (2015-2020)

Montreal get:
G- Pekka Rinne  $9.7M (2015-2020)
3rd round pick Blues
3rd round pick Isles

St.Louis approached Montreal about acquiring Dubby for the stretch run as we liked his match ups better then Rinne's down the stretch. We offered a few draft picks to save ourselves $0.9M as well.

Once the season is over both goalies will be traded  back straight up as I want Rinne to be my goalie next year and Montreal wants the cap savings of $0.9M and Dubby to be their goalie the entire year.

Similar goalies being exchanged so hopefully everyone sees this as a fair honest deal.

its a no brainer for me.  I am not likely to make playoffs and even if I do chances are I would be knocked out first run and it the words of Ricky Bobby if you arent first , you're last.  I take the opportunity to add a couple picks in the draft for a short rental on dubnyk.

I'm not on the trade committee and don't really care that much but I'm not a huge fan of this kind of trade.

Montreal is essentially loaning a player out for a lesser player and a couple of draft picks. What's to stop me from trading a contender Drai for a lesser center and a draft pick and then reversing it later if this is allowed? What's to stop any non playoff team from doing something similar?

Just feels like kind of icky to me but like I said I'm not going to make a big stink of it just voicing my opinion.

I hear you Halo.
I think it's good that Ripper is transparent about this and both teams let everyone know what's what.

If you think about it, Blues are hedging a bet on someone they haven't managed to lead them to a deep playoff run. Could still work against them and because it can play out either way, I'm allowing this trade.

What I wouldn't allow is if say the goalie going to the contender trips and breaks his arm tomorrow, I wouldn't allow an immediate "reversal" of this trade.

:iatp: As long as there's no immediate trade back if either of the principle players gets hurt or abducted by aliens (space or Mexican varieties).

:iatp: That Ripper he's one sly fox. Then again this deal has Snugerud's finger prints all over it. I like it! Of course I'd hate this if the roles were reversed and Montreal was the playoff bound team. Just saying.

I approve on the condition the goalies stay with their new teams until the Finals are completed. Not a fan of these types of trades but there is equity left in Montreal once the main players return to their respective team.

:iatp: PPG said it best. Halo99 raised a valid point. All in all a creative trade seldom used.

:iatp: Not a conventional deal by any means but as PsychoticPondGoons stated, it is transparent and that's good to see.
