Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Completed Transactions / Jose Campos
« on: April 03, 2012, 06:02:13 PM »
Jose Campos, P .... he is a young pitcher ( a pretty good prospect) that I was looking for that isn't in the Excel database.  He should be in the Mariners system, though he is now a Yankee in real life.  He was traded along with Pineda for Montero last fall.

Just a heads up.

Currently, Brett Pill is only shown as 1B, CI, and UT position eligible in Fantrax.  I wish for him to be made 2B eligible, as he played in 57 games last year at Fresno, the AAA affiliate of the Giants.   Our rules state that a player must have played at a certain position 20 games in the previous year to be eligible for that position this year.  It doesn't specify that it must be in the major leagues.  If the majors were the only play that counts, then any rookie coming up couldn't be used until he meets the 20 game (or current year 10 game requirement) to be eligible.

Kenny requested that I put my request on the transaction board, and if there are no objections (he didn't have one), then Pill would become 2B eligible in Fantrax.

Following is a copy of the fielding history of Pill according to mlb.com:

$500,000 major league contract

$500,000 1 year contract

Our constitution states: A batter is eligible at a position if he appeared at that position in 20 games the previous year or 10 games in the current year. A pitcher is eligible as a starting pitcher if he started 5 games the previous year or 3 games in the current year. A pitcher is eligible as a relief pitcher if he made 8 relief appearances in the previous year or 5 relief appearances in the current year.

Does it matter if the player played the required 20 games in the minors or majors the previous year in the case of a batter, or 5 games as a starter or 8 games as a reliever?

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
