Mavs get:
13th overall pick
Warriors get:
Zach Collins $4.4 (2020)
I like Collins and he’s probably going to be a starter this year but his development isn’t where I thought it would be at this point. I’m rebuilding this team from the bottom up and another pick let’s me do that

Wow I figured a lottery pick would be worth more than a bench player making $4.4m per year.
Interested to hear new Warriors GM's take on this.
I don't see Collins getting that much run with Whiteside now in Portland, especially when Nurk returns. He'll probably still be seeing no more than 15 minutes per game. I'd say you could get that in FA for half the price or less than the $4.4m cap hit and keep a lottery pick while you're at it....
Also,
I feel like 13th overall could produce as well as, or better than Collins as soon as January 2020 as a rookie, and be cheaper on the cap, and be owned longer term.
Doesn't make sense to me right now why this trade would be done.

The trade is as agreed upon as stated by Dallas.
Most players breakout years happen in year 3 or 4 (ie Jimmy Butler). Collins has double double potential and is going to start alongside Whiteside this year which should help maximize his offensive potential. I’m not in love with the mid teen talent and Collins is on a good cost controlled deal that will contribute to my team now

Fair enough, :iatp:
Although not sure about the cost-controlled part at $4.4m for 2 years, versus literally half of that ($2.2m for 4 years at pick #13).
That said, I don't know much about Collins, so I hope he proves me wrong.

Honestly don't see first round upside in Collins anymore as he is still lackluster on defense and lacks the ability to score well enough to be a starting 4. The rumors that he will be starting are unconfounded at this time, so he'll still have to compete Nurkic and Whiteside for frontcourt minites while clearly being the worst of the 3.
All of that said, this is supposed to be a fairly weak draft class (although cheaper contracts), so if you really think Collins is better than a rookie at 13 then whatever. I can't tell you who you should think is the better player.
I don't think the deal is significant enough to deserve a veto, so :iatp: but do so with poor enthusiasm

Somewhat skews the value of draft picks, but everyone has their own plan and values assets differently.
-
:iatp: Collins is nothing special but still has some upside, so no issue if GS pefers him to what they could get with 13th pick
