C Aleksi Heponiemi, $m (P-n/a)
G Spencer Martin, $m (P-n/a)
X- 2018 1st Round Draft Pick, Vancouver, $m this year
for
X-C Connor McDavid, Discount Eligible, $0m this year
I hate to be the Peter Pocklington of DNHL but my fiscal responsibilities gave me not a lot of options........... :doh: :doh: I really like my return as Couture is no slouch in his own right. Pick up a decent prospect a 1st round a save 4m.......... :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Canucks confirm the trade
Didn’t think Couture would be gone this quick as he’s a favourite guy of mine.
Losing Heponiemi was a tough part of the talks as he’s a future stud offensive guy himself, he’s been tearing it up through the junior ranks and looks pretty solid in the Memorial Cup so far. Had to give up a piece like that to get the deal done though as it’s McDavid, plus a decent goalie prospect which never know with them a few years down the road.

Before I vote on this I am wondering if Edmonton has a full grasp on the Discount for prospects on their extension. He mentions saving 4 million in cap however
McDavid's extension as #1 ranked center is 10.5 mill, at 70% is only 7.3 million. Couture is 6 mill in reality Edmonton is only saving 1.3 million.
I am leaning to veto as I feel like this might be a new guy not grasping the full value of the rules on this one. I will wait to hear back though before I vote.

Agreed. Drew is not saving $4m here. I don't think he calculated the discount. Moreover this looks like less of a return than Draisatl. I'm very iffy on this one.

I’m all for making trades to clear up cap room. I just wouldn’t do it with a 21 year old superstar.

Switch the goalie for Thatcher Demko and add Pittsburgh's 1st round pick and I think it is even.

I'm going to go ahead and cast a Veto vote for this. I don't believe Edmonton calculated the prospect discount and that's essential. This is too important a player for an oversight like that.
I also agree with Gypsie's counter, for what it's worth.

Since I haven't heard back I will :veto: based on newer owner and I believe they may not have had a full understanding of the discount option on prospects extensions and would substantially affect the ask for a player of that caliber as 10.5 over 5 years is vastly different than 7.3 over 5 years.

In the vast majority of cases I try not to second guess others' judgment of value if it's within reason, but trading a young Connor McDavid deserves closer scrutiny. IMO the return is significantly less than market value for a young cornerstone player, and I think a veto is justified.

Sorry for the delay Gents as I am on vacation at the moment. This trade shows the true value of the TC as I was unaware of the discount on McD. My roaster page indicated a 0% discount.........and without delving into the rules fully..........I took that at face value.
