Title: Referendum Results
Post by: Flash on April 06, 2018, 12:41:53 PM

GMs,

The voting ended yesterday on the Referendum regarding the following rule:

“Item AX B(1)-5.0
Free Agent signings cannot be traded until 60 days after they have signed.  This date will be shown per each player in the official rosters section.  In addition to our 60-day NTC rule, any players signed to extensions as well as FA contracts in the offseason cannot be traded until June 1st the following year.”

As you all know, there were three possible choices for your consideration:

1) Keep the rule as written (with the June 1st provision deleted)
2) Modify rule with a reduction to 30 days (with the June 1st provision deleted)
3) Abolish the rule in its entirety and mirror MLB.

None of the options got a majority vote, so the rule remains as written.  However, in looking at the results, the June 1st provision will be permanently removed as it essentially received a majority vote of 17 votes (in that its elimination was included in each of the options).  With that, in order to honor the 60 day rule, we will now include a transaction date whenever a player is extended, as we do when a free agent is signed.

So the rule will now read:

“Item AX B(1)-5.0
Free Agent signings, and players who are extended, cannot be traded until 60 days after they have signed.  This date will be shown per each player in the official rosters section.  In addition to our 60-day NTC rule, any players signed to extensions as well as FA contracts in the offseason cannot be traded until June 1st the following year.”

Thanks to all,
