Title: Toronto Blue Jays Extensions
Post by: WestCoastExpress on August 14, 2019, 09:38:05 PM
Going to start extensions for the 2020 season now, to give a better idea of cap space moving forward:

OF Trout, Mike, $10m (2019)
Highest Rank: 2018 #1 OF
Re-Sign Price: $22.6m
Sign for 5 more years after this season
OF Trout, Mike, $10m (2019); $22.6m (2024)

SS Lindor, Francisco, $0.3m (P-2019)
Highest Rank: 2018 #2 SS  (Currently #6 in 2019)
Re-Sign Price: $9.3m
Prospect Discount = 60% off regular salary -> 9.3 x 0.6 = 5.58; 9.3 - 5.58= 3.72
Contract Price = $3.7m, rounded up to $4m min. prospect contract
Sign for 5 years, at $4m per year
SS Lindor, Francisco, $0.3m (P-2019); $4.0m (2024)

Your math has you resigning Lindor at 40%...

9.3 x 0.6 = $5.58, which rounds up to $5.6m

I'm assuming that the rule as written means 60% off of the normal salary... Otherwise wouldn't the rule say 40% off instead of 60% off?

Quote
20XX - 60%
20XX+1 - 50%
20XX+2 - 40%
20XX+3, n/a - 30%

$5.6m would be 60% OF the normal contract, no? (and not OFF the normal contract?) I'm confused overall haha.

Otherwise, if I (you) would have re-signed Lindor last year with 1 year still left on the prospect contract, you would get him at 50% off instead of 40% off (9.3 x 0.5 = 4.65 -> $4.7m per year instead of the $5.6m you stated).

Either way I don't really give a sh1t since I have a sh1t-ton of cap space. The rule as written is very confusing though.

Why would waiting longer to resign someone on a dirt cheap contract give you more of a discount.

Exactly. Doesn't make sense. Look at the rules and your example you gave :disco:
