San Jose Sharks make this trade to unload an anchor of a contract that was supposed to get us some points for at least one more season but instead Niemi has bolted to the KHL and that $5.5 million cap hit for another 4yrs seems too heavy for our franchise to carry. I know the boys in Buffalo are laughing that they unloaded Antti sooner than later. We will take a serviceable contract like Lucic but maybe we'll "Corey Perry" him in the 2020 offseason if he can't get it together in 2019-20.

Lucic could possibly maybe give my Sharks a small up tick in production if Edmonton can ship him off to Vancouver to relive his junior glory days when he was a Giant! At least that's the hope by acquiring Milan.

:iatp: PPG summed it up! Lucic recently turned 31yo. That's prehistoric for a guy who plays the grid and bang game. It would be a good move to buy out Lucic and get that cap hit off the books.

:iatp: That's a good trade for both teams IMO. Both team move a bad contract to take one they can live with. Smart trade.

I am totally feeling like lady luck is on my side. I also thought Niemi had at least 1-2 seasons left in him as a mentor to a younger goalie but with so many young goalies knocking on the NHL's door these days it was a matter of time before Niemi saw the writing on the wall and jumped the Atlantic to extend his career.

I will give the win to Florida who shed Lucic's $7.3 Million contract while taking on a contract they can Buy-Out completely this Summer.

That would've been a hot potato chain reaction game. Florida has already posted the BO. End of the line for Niemi in FNHL!
