Phillies get
OF Gonzalez, Carlos, $13m (2020)

Rays get
C Norris, Derek, $4m (2020)

Phillies gamble here that Cargo has something left in the tank. Norris wasn’t longer in our future so we feel taking on the $9m per year more is worth the risk.

Tampa agrees to this deal. The return is minimal but we are a small market club that cannot have CarGo suck the life out of this team.  Flexibility is huge with my payroll constraints so this deal makes sense.
