* A Play-off team's draft position will be determined by the Stanley Cup playoff results. Whichever team wins the Stanley Cup is awarded the 31st and last pick, while the runner-up is given the 30th pick. Teams eliminated in the conference finals are awarded the 29th and 28th picks, with the 29th pick going to the team with the better regular season record. Remaining division winners, then the rest of the field are ranked next, filling in the 26th through 15th picks. In both cases, better records result in later picks.

Post by: Jonathan on April 03, 2018, 04:19:20 PM: Hindsight is 20/20. The loss in that trade was McNabb, who went from a 50 pt season to a 100 pt season. I am sure the SJ GM didn't anticipate putting together the 30th best team in a 31 team league.

I hope you're wearing a hard hat while digging past SJ moves, safety first. I make trades with goals in mind, and that pick was a reward. It could of been 10-15th if SJ had a plan. They could of even made the playoffs in the Pacific. You only had to win 50% of the time to take the division.

True 50% puts u in the playoffs in Pacific but sometimes it hard to get their 2 yrs ago Canucks were in total disary when i got had 1st overall and still now got nowhere near and had 5th and now 7th in following drafts, (1st Rd + duchene for Markstrom early in 2016/17) and i've made mistake (selling Matthews for not enough). But Halo had 1st pick last year and now leading the league, so miracles can happen.

But everyone makes mistakes even Jonathon who i regard as one of the best NCAA FA finders and prospect pickers in the league, as last year draft trade his quote: I move one steal for another.
When i traded him Sam Steel and 48th pick for Elias Pettersson so could franchise tag him in the future, as thought at the least be Canucks 2C for next ten years (I never dreamed he end up becoming all time rookie SHL scorer).

Got feeling my pm's on prospect trades might be on auto :soapbox: block by Jonathon for a while. :cry: :cry:

The toughest part is keeping a good core group together with their contract starting to spiral out of control starting last yr and onward. Yeah I decimated my farm system in an effort to win the cup this year. I made a lot of moves building for the future the previous year so I was basically trading from that stockpile this year. Looking back I probably won a lot of trades last year when I was building and lost more trades this year when I was all in.

It's just easier to justify parting with draft specs and specs when you are trying to keep up with the Flyers and Predators of the world I guess...

Dobson would've probably been drafted after the #5 hole but couldn't chance that and that's what the draft is all about, picking up the players you really want and making sure it happens. It really boiled down to Dobson and Wahlstrom for me at #5, but a RHS blueliner is a great piece to add and Noah will crack the NHL sooner than later because of that and many other great qualities.

Was looking at Borchard for the Leafs but crow got him. No complaints as I am real high on LW Joel Farabee.

I thought someone would grab him before 8th. Slide til 12th. Surprised as well. Big kid good hands. Just needs to work on his acceleration and he'll be a power fwd to look out for.

Plenty of good D to go around in this draft. Watched clips of Boqvist and his skating reminds me of Brayden Point's stride for some reason, short and choppy but that little guy is quick.

We grabbed 3 really good NHL 1st rounders in the late 1st and 2nd rds of our FNHL draft. Not bad, in fact I'd say really lucky. Of course that Ottawa pick might have coodies so we'll have to wash that one real good before using. HAHAHA

I also like what I drafted for my :NYR: Rangers. :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Went with some projected steals and oddly all 4 of my picks were in round 3 of the FNHL draft. From what I've seen and read about Vallati, he could be a late round steal in real life for the Winnipeg Jets. He's quick and has a good transition game with a little sandpaper tossed in for good measure.
