Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Dodgers - Phillies Trade
« on: June 05, 2011, 01:08:04 PM »
The Dodgers and Phillies have agreed to a deal:

Dodgers get:
CI Howard, Ryan, $18m (2014)
Phillies pay 6m in 2011, 8m in 2012 and 2013, 6m in 2014
OF Fowler, Dexter, $0.5m (P-2012)

Phillies get:
C Ruiz, Carlos, $6.5m (2012)
OF Brown, Domonic, $0.5m (P-n/a)
CI Wallace, Brett, $0.5m (P-2013)

Wow.  I can't believe I traded Howard lol.  I give up a ton of money in this deal but I feel I get a solid return.  I hold Brown in high regard and I'm hoping now more then ever that he lives up to what he is supposed to be.  If he does I feel I got a good deal here.  If he doesn't I won't be happy for a while.  Wallace is a decent player with upside.  I really needed a catcher as well.  If Wallace and Brown produce then the money I am spending on Howard is worth it.  It is a risk I'm willing to take.

Thanks Howe for the long negotiations.  I'm glad we were finally able to agree.

Dodgers to confirm.

Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Phillies Extension
« on: June 01, 2011, 03:46:32 PM »
The Phillies have come to terms with Ryan Howard on an extension.  The new terms are below:

Ryan Howard 18m (2014)

The Phillies and the A's have come to terms on an agreement:

A's receive:

MI Hill, Aaron, $3m (2014)
OF McCutchen, Andrew, $0.5m (P-2012)
OF Gardner, Brett, $0.5m (P-2012)

Phillies receive:

OF Fowler, Dexter, $0.5m (P-2012)
OF Coghlan, Chris, $0.5m (P-2012)
MI Escobar, Yunel, $6.5m (2012)
A's pay 3.5m for Escobar in 2011, 2m for 2012.
CI Parker, Stephen, $0.5m (P-n/a)

It was really really hard to trade McCutchen but I feel like I got a good return.  If Coghlan stays healthy and he and Fowler continue to produce I feel its a solid deal for me.  I favor Escobar slightly over Hill and I feel like I got a good prospect in Parker.  Time will tell if I made the right move but I feel like its a solid deal between two good GM's.

Thanks Rob for the negotiations!  Very professional and I appreciate it!   :toth:

A's to confirm.

Marlins recieve:

SP Oswalt, Roy, $14.5m (2011)
I will pay12m for Oswalt for 2011
X-OF Rios, Alex, Cash Exchange on Contract, $3m in 2012, $-5m in 2011
X OF Rios, Alex, Cash exchange on Contract $-3m in 2013 and 2014
OF Rios, Alex, $10.5m (2014)
CI-MI Izturis, Maicer, $5m (2012)
I will pay 5m for Izturis for 2011, 3m in 2012
CI Johnson, Chris, $0.5m (P-2013)
P Ray, Chris, $0.5m (2011)
P Garcia, Edgar, $0.5m (P-n/a)

Phillies recieve:

SP Sanchez, Anibal, $1m (2011)
OF Francisco, Ben, $0.5m (P-2011)
MI Phillips, Brandon, $7m (2011)
P Bailey, Andrew, $0.5m (P-2012)

Phillies did this deal to get a little cheaper for the future.  Oswalt was tough to give up because of the potential for a big year with the Phils and Chris Johnson was tough to give up because of potential but I had to give up something to get something.  I get out from under Rios's contract as well.  Sanchez is a serviceable pitcher and Phillips is a solid MI.  Francisco will hopefully more than platoon this year and I'm hoping Bailey bounces back again from being hurt.  Overall I feel it gives me a more solid lineup and the Marlins get a lot of depth for their team.

Thanks for the negotiations Samuel!  It took a little while but we where finally able to agree on a deal.  :toast:

Marlins to confirm.

  • Braves155: My issue in LIVE currently is having Strider/Alcantara/Giolito all on the long shelf, so I am more retooling than rebuilding
    May 05, 2024, 02:46:48 PM
  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Brent: He had that view b/c of his father who was a blackjack dealer in Vegas.
    May 05, 2024, 04:35:28 PM
  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen

  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.

  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.

  • Daddy: Load up on MLB guys, then near MLB guys, and only then is the quality of your prospects matter. Ya dig ;)
