2014 is his draft eligible year....didn't realize they actually had to get drafted to qualify. Ho hum.
Alright, let get a ruling on that from PR.
This is what the rules state:
Entry Draft
- Annual Franchise NHL (FNHL) draft starts on [ see FNHL Deadlines page ].
- Foreign players and unprotected prospects will be handled via free agency.
- Each team is given 12-hours to make their pick. Once a team has picked, the 12-hr clock starts for the next GM.
- Teams that do not pick within the 12-hr timeframe time-out. If the team did not provide a proxy pick / pre-ranked list, they'll be awarded the next highest ranked player available from that year's NHL Entry Draft Results (consult NHL.com for details).
- Once a team has timed out x1, they are place on auto-pilot and MUST post a request on the Franchise NHL Transaction page to "Remove the Draft Auto-Pilot."
- Draft picks can be traded. However, a team cannot trade picks for future drafts as the following year's draft picks are not active until the end of the current year's draft.
- FNHL Draft will last 4 rounds, but teams are not required to make picks if they do not wish to make room on their MiLR.
- Teams may continue to draft even if their MiLR is full (see MiLR Roster Limit rules) but must achieve the MiLR limit before the start of the first game of the regular season.
You might have a point. A loophole if you will.
I think we will still let PR have the final say but the rules do not explicitly forbid drafting of players that are draft eligible but not drafted their 1st year of draft eligibility.
Hold onto Vlad for now.
