Edmonton/Winnipeg Trade
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:08:32 PM »
Edmonton sends:
Daniel Alfredsson, $2.7m (2013-14)
Kris Letang, $3.5m (2013-14)

Winnipeg sends:
Tyler Johnson, $0.2m (2014-15)
Alexandre Burrows, $3.6m (2014-15)
Justin Schultz, $0.2m (2014-15)
Keith Yandle, $3.3m (2014-15)

Edmonton also sends down Justin Fontaine to make this deal work.

Edmonton does this deal to pick up youth. Didn't really want Burrows but was needed to get the deal done. Edmonton likes the incoming talent of Johnson and Schultz!

With the kind of production Schultz and Johnson are giving at 200k, I honestly do not see the value of moving them for rentals that are producing just a little better. These are the kind of contracts that build championship teams in the backyard. I also do not see yandel as a good salary dump. I feel that this deal will damage winnipegs chances at a cup run now and in the future.

When a player can average more then 1 point a game at 200k, that is a steal. Most players average that much is usually making between 700k to 1M. Johnson is averaging 1.63 points per game. A player averaging that much is usually worth between 2M to 4M, depending on the position. Yandel is averaging 1.54 points per game on a contract worth 3.3M. A player like Yandel is normally making between 3.5M to 5M. These contracts are all very cheap contracts that allow you to afford players like Stamkos and Weber. I understand you are going for it all this year, but is it really worth trading these very cheap contracts for rentals?

I could see myself approving this deal if it was for Jones or your 1st, but for Schultz and Johnson, I personally feel this deal will damage your future and your cup run now.

No time to do a real review so just hanging onto Favo's post unless more is needed later. This deal is no good.

Sorry guys. Veto

Yandle can't be a cap dump with his performance.
Letang is a monster, but his re-sign value is too high.

Schultz and Johnson are just too much to give up.

Its fine to make a cap run this year but we can't have teams setting back their futures 4-5 years just to take a shot

I also get what you guys are saying about Johnson but what happens to him once Stamkos come back? He will not be playing with St. Louis anymore and producing near as much. Schultz has had a bad season, he hasn't looked nearly as good and this is coming from an Oiler fan. Burrows is the cap dump as he hasn't produced anything really this season. Yandle was thrown in because it was him or Jones and he makes the cap work and it a 30 year old instead of a 20 year old. Winnipeg gets the two best players in the deal in Alfredsson and Letang, so how can we work it so that I actually get value back for two of my top players?
