We would have to decide as a league, I would be in favour either way the league wants.

Personally I don't think a blanket solution works. Sure, we'd all like to extend our cheap high value contracts by a year but what of older players that are near or at retirement. Would't be fair to force an extension on GM's with players like Alfredson and Selanne.

How about letting GM's select a handful of core players to extend?

Should be a moot point as they'll probably be playing by Christmas but worth talking about. Good thread Bean.

I would be in favour of a contract freeze. Meaning that all contracts would have 1 year added to their contracts.

As for the possible cap changes. I would be in favour for exactly following the NHL where players salaries would be reduced by a certain percent.
Another idea would be to expand the league and have a certain number of players protected.
Any other ideas on cap related changes?

:iatp: the hole reason I got alferaon was to play one more year when lock out happens more likely he won't be around I think contracts should just run there courses

Or maybe let the contract run it's course BUT give GM's the option for an additional year extension at current contract maybe?

If there is a lockout do I keep the cup and become the 2012-13 champs by default?

We will have plenty of time to figure this out if we don't get a season.

So should we start figuring out what we are doing with our contracts for next year.

They going to carry over or do we lose a year or any other ideas?

I am in favour of carrying over, with any players who signed a contract this season and retire to be nullified.

After some thought this is my suggestion.

- all players on a two-way get a year extended on their current contract.
- all GM's get to extend another year on up to 7 players.
- rest of the the players lose a year off their contract and if they were in the last year they can be signed to an extension as usual or they will be free agents.

I feel this let's GM's have more control on their teams.

I like this suggestion as 7 playersget the chance to keep the team "core" and then if you have some you may want to let walk then you can as well. This should benefit every team in the league IMO

Question if the salary cap goes down 10m like it looks like the NHL wants and we mimic the real NHL can we get like a free buyout or something to help put us under the cap or are we just going to play with 70.2m this year and worry about that next year?? This is if there is a season

We could apply a 15% roll-back on all existing contracts. What about a 10% roll-back coupled with a buy-out? Just throwing it out there.

For this season the cap for our league has already been set so it will remain at $70.2m, if cap goes down next season we will make the necessary adjustments then.

If there is no season I think we will go with a keeper style where a certain number of players get a year added to their contracts.

After crunching the numbers, I feel that a ten percent rollback on all current contracts would be the perfect solution.

If we don't add a year to a player's contract that has an expiring contract can we sign them to an extension?

I really like this suggestion. It seems fair  and addresses the fact that the salary cap is certain to go down. I would also be in favour of a 10% roll back as that also seems fair.

They have reached a verbal agreement, still far from 100%, but at least looking better.
