Salaries/Contracts
« on: December 27, 2016, 04:39:49 PM »
Each Team has a salary cap of $120m. The players on minor roster are exempt until they are promoted to regular roster.

Flat Salary

There are no variable salary contracts. Each year of a contract must have the same salary amount.

Minimum Salary

All contracts must be signed to at least $500,000 and must be in multiples of $100,000.

Contract Limits

Below are the maximums. Example if you give a player 1.1m per year... The most years you can do is 3.

$0.5m - $1.0m  2 years
$1.1m - $5.4m  3 years
$5.5m - $9.9m  4 years
$10m or more   5 years (the overall limit)

Contract extensions follow the contract maximum lengths as shown above as well as their own minimum standards.

$20m+ - 5 years
$16 to $19.5m - 4 years
$11 to $15.5m - 3 years
$5 to $10.5m - 2 years

Prospect Extension

1.) Any player who is currently under a prospect contract may be signed to a regular contract extension (see below), but they may also be signed to a prospect extension.
2.) Prospect extensions are subject to the following stipulations:
a.) The extension must be a 5-year deal where the annual salary is X% of their market value.
b.) The resulting annual salary must be no less than $4m.
3.) No matter what the current prospect contract is, the prospect extension kicks in the following year at the rate based on when the contract is given.

For the 20XX season, the following percentages would be used per prospect status.

20XX - 60%
20XX+1 - 50%
20XX+2 - 40%
20XX+3, n/a - 30%

Extensions: Deadline December 31, 2022

You may extend a player's contract in any year, but if it is during the contract, then the new contract must be no less and no shorter than the current remaining contract.

Any player signed to a new contract in the off-season after the original contract ends must be signed to at least 50% of what they made before, rounded to the nearest $0.5m. A contract extension which is less than the current contract may only be two years in length.

In the case of multiple positions for one player, the most games played at a position would take precedent. (multi-position on players does show games started at position updated at fantrax).

Contract extensions are based on looking up the player's highest ranking by position in both the current season and the last season. If an extension is done during the season and before the trade deadline, then the previous TWO seasons and the current season must be looked at. In the off-season, the last two seasons will be used. Therefore...

OFFSEASON (2022-2023); 2021 and 2022 rankings are used
REGULAR SEASON, PRE-JUNE 1ST (2023): 2021, and 2022 rankings are used
REGULAR SEASON, AFTER JUNE 1ST (2023): 2022 and 2023 rankings are used

The salary information will be compiled in a spreadsheet calculator that is updated at the beginning of each new season January 1, 20--. Contract extensions follow the contract maximum lengths as shown above.

All contract extensions must be approved by the roster manager.

Prospect Contracts

NEW 2023: A player can be signed to a prospect contract as long as they have pitched less than 140 IP 70 IP or had at least 400 AB 200 AB in their career. The contract is at the league minimum, but it can be more as in the case of some inherited contracts. The player may be cut at any time, and the hit to the cap will be zero as long as their salary was at the league minimum (bonuses are fully guaranteed and stay with winning team for remainder of year). Note that a player also becomes ineligible for a prospect contract when that player is released from a prospect contract that had its three year clock already start.

The contract lasts for three years after the point they accumulate 140 IP/50 G 70 IP/25 G P (pitcher) or have 400 ABs 200 AB  (position player). They may accumulate this over multiple years, but the three year rule does not take effect until the following year they actually hit the accumulation threshold.

  • ldsjayhawk: @jwalker I make like 2-3 trades a year for each of my baseball teams, maybe.  I'll tell you part of the reason I don't trade.  Every trade discussion starts out with the other team wanting my top prospect regardless of what I am trading for.  I am not trading Jackson Holliday for your backup catcher who is going to play 20 games this year.

  • ldsjayhawk: Trading should be a win-win situation for both teams.
  • dbreer23: Agreed. I think the Devers deal in FGM is a good example of that. Devers gives SD some now (and future) pop, giving up substantial pieces to get him (Mayo, Keith, and one other).

  • Brent: I had Holliday in FGM before I stepped away.

  • Jwalkerjr88: If you made a list of the most aggressive gms to have stepped foot in nfl live, you will notice the champions will be among them

  • Jwalkerjr88: Carolina has kyren williams right now cause i traded him for a 2nd and a 4th. Id rather have kyren today lol
    Today at 01:54:28 PM
  • Brent: Agreed.  I have Amon Ra St. Brown and Aiyuk because I traded JJ.  I couldn't have acquired a player like ASB where I was picking in the 1st so I down tiered at WR to make a trio of Chase, ASB and Aiyuk instead of JJ, Chase and fill in the blank.

  • ldsjayhawk: That is probably even more true in baseball since your drafts don't payoff for 5 years or so.  And I will admit my conservatism may be the reason I only have one championship here at ProFSL
