Background: The Winged Wheel is coming of a season where they were the #3 seed in the West. A first round exit from the playoffs caused some shakeups and called for new management. Leaving a successful Penguins team, GM izaman3 opted to return home to the Great Lakes State. The team had some pricey contracts in Ryan Smyth and Logan Couture that prevented the team from acquiring the depth needed for a deep run.
This year:
The Wings made some major shakeups that they hope will extend their playoff run. The team is currently up against the cap but has spent the off-season addressing weaknesses/needs and hopefully isn't done making moves.
Strengths:Goaltending, 2 great starters and a solid backup in Stalock
Left Wing depth
Serviceable Centers
Weaknesses:Lack of point-producing Defensemen
Lack of serviceable depth at Right Wing
Needs:A star right winger
Future Outlook:Detroit has filled out its roster, but may still continue to tweak until feels confident in its run at the Cup. A goaltender may be moved if it can generate a good return.
Notable Additions: Adam Henrique
Tyler Johnson
Tomas Fleischmann
Mike Cammalleri
Kyle Okposo
Braydon Coburn
Notable Subtractions:Ryan Smyth
Logan Couture - hopefully the lose of the pricey Couture can be justified with the talent the team was able to bring in with the cap space created by buying out that contract
