Title: Colorado Avalanche Season Preview
Post by: PigsRule on August 20, 2013, 06:02:50 PM
Background:
After finishing 27th and 26th in 2010-11 and 2011-12 respectively, Colorado added what it thought would be a dedicated new owner who suddenly picked up and moved on early into week 3 of the strike shorten season. Though claiming his team would not be competitive during their brief stink as owner/GM, the Avs still ended up making the post-season for the first time in 3 years and ended up finishing 16th overall.

This year:
Colorado has a great core of young players which it stocked during two different ownership periods. The nucleus of the team being Cory Schneider (acquired via Free agency in 2011), Jonathan Huberdeau (drafted in 2012) and a slew of key players in Chris Stewart, Colin Wilson, Matt Duchene, Matt Frattin, Mark Streit and Tyson Barrie. The team only looks to build on the past year's success.

Strengths:
Deep prospect pipeline
Solid starting goalie
Goalie depth in MiLR

Weaknesses:
LW
Depth on D in MiLR

Needs:
New owner
LW

Future Outlook:
If Cory Schneider can earn an even split in starts, Colorado should be very competitive in 2013-14 especially with strong point production up front from a core of talent young scorers.
