Looks like NHL free agency is at a standstill.
I think it could easily be the same around here with only a handful of teams with cap to make more than a couple of bids on players before they're out of funds. 9715

I see some league on this site where cap values are still going up this year? Nuts!
In those leagues yes definitely easy extensions and watered down FA. That's why I won't play other leagues. They're not deep and have cheap contracts. Not challenging enough for my fantasy playtime. LOL 9716

We're reading the same book but might still be on different pages here.
I gott say if we make two moving parts to the salary cap versus extension values equation the caveman in us will come out and we'll be left scratching our heads and throwing our hands up in neanderthal disgust. But I see what you're getting at about watered down FA although I don't think that was an issue around here in the past. 9717

Extensions are being handed out to these two puckheads before I forget and the new goalie extensions kick my flabby cap arse.
Martin Biron, $0.9m (2013-2014) 2012/13 #59 2011/12 #47 2yrs 0.9m Carey Price, $5.9m (2013-2014) 2012/13 #14 2011/12 #15 3yrs 3.7m Let's buy out this meatball since we're no longer desperate for goaltending. Mark Owuya, $0.2m (2013-2014) cost 0.1m 2013/14 That's all for now. 9718

Chicago is offering newly acquired defenseman Brian Campbell, $4.0m (2014-2015).
All we want is a late 3rd round or higher 4th round pick in return. We ain't asking much. We'll take the first offer that meets our requirements. We're easy that way! LOL Hit me up guys! 9719

I suppose if we went with your approach someone would need to update the ext values annually. There doesn't seem to be those kinds of owners around.
Anywho doesn't free agency already inject enough salary variance into the mix here? At least I think that's what you're looking for here or maybe I'm pissing on the wrong target. Don't know about you but the more complex you make fantasy sports the less engaged teams will be over the long haul. But that's just an old fart's couple of pennies. LOL 9720
