Interesting Look Back - Vetoed Trades
« on: January 14, 2015, 04:58:39 PM »
Here are the last 4 trades to be vetoed and the points these players have put up this season.

#1
Edmonton sends:
Daniel Alfredsson, $2.7m (2013-14) <-- retired
Kris Letang, $3.5m (2013-14) <- 83.6 (2.26 pts/game)

Winnipeg sends:
Tyler Johnson, $0.2m (2014-15) <-- 98.35 (2.29 pts/game)
Alexandre Burrows, $3.6m (2014-15) <--- 46.05 (1.28 pts/game)
Justin Schultz, $0.2m (2014-15) <-- 47.35 (1.1 pts/game)
Keith Yandle, $3.3m (2014-15) <--- 65.2 (1.55 pts/game)

Great veto by the TC. Looking back at only 1 year and this would have been a major loss for Winnipeg. The only player remaining on Winnipeg is Johnson though but he is the best producer (but surprised he is producing so well this season). Letang was also traded to Winnipeg in a re-worked deal that included Yandle and Schultz so all in all was a good trade but required Letang to be re-signed.

#2
To LA
Winnipeg 2
Winnipeg 3
Winnipeg 4
Winnipeg 5
Semin, Alexander LW,RW <-- 14.2 (0.57 pts/game)
Tyler Toffoli C RW <-- 67.25 (1.64 pts/game)

To Winnipeg
Kessel, Phil RW <-- 89.35 (2.08 pts/game)

Looking back if we knew Semin's production was going to take such a steep drop this deal actually would have been OK but the problem lies in the simple number of draft picks that were to be traded. Toffoli, I believe was playing at a higher rate but still seemed bad at time but much better now.

#3
To Anaheim
Round 1 (DALLAS) - Michael Dal Colle, LW
Round 1 (MINN) - Nikolaj Ehlers, LW
Round 2 (Vancouver) - Linus Ullmark, G
Mason Raymond, $2.0m (2013-14) <-- 22.6 (1.03 pts/game)
Niklas Hjalmarsson, $1.4m (2014-15) <-- 37.95 (0.88 pts/game)
Nick Bjugstad, $0.2m (2014-15) <-- 73.9 (1.8 pts/game)

for

To LA
Jhonas Enroth, $1.2m (2014-15) <-- 139 (4.79 pts/game)
Zach Bogosian, $3.2m (2015-16) <-- 38.7 (1.33 pts/game)
Cedrick Desjardins, $0.2m (2013-14) <-- 0
:ANA: Round 4

This one is debatable now. Enroth is the starter in Buffalo but he is the starter in Buffalo and for how long! The two picks were 5th and 7th overall so good players were available there. Bjugstad has been good but was also still traded in another deal to Anaheim. The other two players in the deal are more of cap players. Bogosian is the next best player in the deal so although LA would have gotten a goalie and a solid defender, the reason was the potential of those two first round picks, along with a Buffalo goalie. I believe Gilly would have been better if this deal went through but that is also because he traded the picks and Bjugstad off in other deals.
P.S. - The number of players that Gilly has had on his team and then traded is insane. If you were to compile the players that he has had, you could easily make an all-star team. I believe but correct me that he has had Ovechkin and Crosby to name two superstars.

#4
:LAK: receives:

Brooks Laich, $3.6m (2013-14) <-- 35.05 (1.3 pts/game)
Colin Greening, $4.0m (2013-14) <-- 14.65 (0.73 pts/game)
Erik Gustafsson, $0.5m (2014-15) <-- 0
Michal Neuvirth, $1.6m (2014-15) <-- 71.5 (4.21 pts/game)

:WAS-NHL: receives:

Evgeni Malkin, $8.7m (2013-14) <-- 92.85 (2.21 pts/game)
Lauri Korpikoski, $1.5m (2013-14) <-- 38.1 (1 pts/game)
Niklas Hjalmarsson, $1.4m (2014-15) <-- 37.95 (0.88 pts/game)
:MIN-NHL: Round 4

Another great veto by the TC. Neuvirth is the backup (again in Buffalo). If both of these trades went through Gilly would be in the same situation as Washington but still not a "top" team. Malkin is the top player even if he is not a goalie and to include sending the other two would have hurt LA. The players LA would have received are garbage through and through. Although Malkin was indeed sent to Washington in another deal but not nearly as bad as this one.

Sorry Gilly if this seems like I am picking on you, these were just the last 4 deals to be vetoed when I went back to do this after I thought of the idea.

I love going back in my spare time and looking at all of the trades.  I think it's a lot of fun to see deals that happened months or years ago and see how they panned out.

Great read Drew!

One thing tho, #4 I think might be the worst deal I ever did or tried to do, I don't even want to remember what I ended up doing.

I also don't want to speak of Ovie/Crosby when I had both at same time as my therapist says its better to not talk about it, lolol
