I change to a I did not realize that Irving is not even signed. He is a UFA and belongs to nobody right now.
I honestly didn't know that either, I guess that is the base of the deal and changes it up but as I stated in the Dubnyk deal occasionally you have to take risks to get ahead.
But sometimes a risk doesn't look that positive... Dubnyk at least has a strong chance to be the starter in Edmonton. Irving still needs to sign somewhere, and the fact that Calgary has three guys ahead of him in the depth chart is brutal. I could see the deal being solid if the goalie going back was Gibson, but Irving looks to be a long shot with that revelation. The point of the trade committee is to flag a deal that looks bad long term for an organization. We understand that some teams need to take a risk, but the risk needs to calculate the right way. The kuznetsov deal last season was a solid calculated risk as Minny had no plans of keeping the guys he traded anyway. This does not look like a solid calculated risk and in my mind, could destroy the Minnesota franchise in the future.
Irving is a bum. I live in Calgary and he isn't even on the radar.
