Post by: Jss0062 on August 03, 2015, 01:29:50 PM
Anyone interested in a 5 or 7 person trade committee?  If so please nominate below.

I'm ok with it, if that is the way you think we should go.  Are you asking us to nominate ourselves or others?

I'd definitely support it, might help remove some of the drama. Not sure how you're going to decide on who to be in it though.

I'd nominate the following:

Philadelphia
NY Mets
Toronto
LA Angels
Texas

I'd also volunteer to be on it.

I feel trade committees invite disputes. The same people always making trade decisions, who also participate in trades themselves, opens the door for partisan voting.

Other than the draft, there is no other way to improve your team in this league, as there are really no free agents worth rostering.

Having a small group in control of what trade is fair or not, isn't good.

I understand what you are saying.  Although, right now we have a small group in charge of them.  Is there anyway to get more of the GMs active?  I was actually shocked when I checked fantrax to see how many of them log in regularly, because I found that most of the GMs in the league are active, even though we only see 6-10 posting anything on the boards.   :o

I would tend to agree that a larger voting committee is better to avoid any personal issues getting in the way and clouding objectivity.  Also, the more managers we have involved in approving trades, the less likely a vote is to be swayed by the how it would directly impact one of the few voting manager's teams.  Having said that, we seem to have a good group here to where I have not seen this going on.
Personally, I would vote if asked, I just haven't been voting because I thought only a few managers had been designated to vote.

thanks,

League needs alot of help starting with trade committee. I'm willing to be on it if you need someone.we also got to get the rid of the owners that went active in here. I don't want the league be like title town and have to start from scratch over again

Everyone should have a say on trades if they like.  Trade Committees are great if members are objective but that's seldom the case.

Regarding activity, we can just have a league message sent regarding each trade and everyone/anyone can come vote if they like.

Eh, it is an intriguing idea. I agree something needs to change. I have seen too many trades get voted down because only 2 or 3 people vote and one person vetoes. With so few people voting it essentially empowers one person to vote down a trade in a league of 30.

I do think there are some concerns that have to be outlined here concerning a committee.

Ideally more people voting and more vetoes required would be good. Maybe up the required votes for a trade to pass (5 approvals?) and only if a veto occurs then have that trigger an email requesting more votes over a longer time period with a percentage involved (ex:80% approval required)

Thanks to Rockies for the nomination and I would be glad to serve on a committee and I think it could be done well if set up correctly but I still think it would be best to give everybody a voice on all trades. If we do a committee it should be one in which everybody in the league votes to appoint teams to the committee for a length of time. An election. Not just one person deciding.
