Currently planned to take place after the FNHL Finals, but before the official FNHL rollover date.
Example, if the NHL restarts Jan 1/21 and end Jun 30/21, we could hold it mid-July.

Vegas didn't have that option, that is why I was asking. We could just not extend and Vegas couldn't draft. I felt like that hurt Vegas a lot.

Can we make a deal with new Seattle to unprotect a player that would normally be automatically protected? The reason I am asking, is that it would benefit Seattle to be able to franchise said player, if they choose. I understand they could just trade for player, but with no chance of ever franchising.

Sorry, just trying to keep all my options open as I plan for the future.

They couldn't draft anyone with a contract that ended in 17', hence the lack of quality players drafted. I remember it because a lot of teams just let them hit FA, given they could try to win them back versus Vegas taking them in expansion draft. It was a loophole that needed to be cleaned up.

Considering allowing the expansion team to draft a player with an expiring contract could mean Seattle gets to pick thru FA's ahead of everyone else which isn't "fair" relative to ensuring the expansion team gets the same opportunity to bid and sign a player with an expiring contract during FA.

Let me talk it over with PR but I think Seattle be in the same boat as other teams when it comes to access to players with expiring contracts.

Slept on it. Waiting for PR to reply.
My initial thoughts are to allow Seattle a chance at drafting quality players without giving carte blanche to cherry pick pending FA's. Perhaps a compromise to allow for a certain number of pending FAs (contracts ending in '21) to be drafted by Seattle say 33.3% of their roster. But that's a preliminary nugget of a thought to keep things fair for everyone.

Yes. Will do so by mid-December before the start of the NHL season. It will be a simplified version of the NHL's Seattle expansion draft rules for teams who need to protect and expose players.
