Armchair Fantasy Baseball: Archives / Re: Draft Discussion
« on: March 31, 2015, 07:25:43 PM »
We have 6 vacant teams currently, and some of the teams like Miami, Oakland, St Louis don't have much use for later rounds in the draft historically.

Quite frankly the draft is probably too long at 40 rounds, especially when only about 2% of players selected after the 10th round make the majors.  Shortening the draft should be looked at for next season.

2% is still 200% better than zero. My question is this: Do the vacant teams get draft-picks?

In most leagues a team without a manager will be awarded the "next highest player available" to ensure a competitive league. I haven't seen that taking place here.

Nice Cincy.  After BooYah! ing seemingly every round of the draft about "fairness" and "cheating," you roll out your 13 picks while the rest of us were trying to see who was still in and if we were going to continue in some kind of order.
Just thought I'd point that out.

thanks,
  frank-brewers

All I did was respond to the post on the draft-board, which offered "if anyone would like to finish out their draft, feel free to do so".

And considering that every team was on "auto-skip" at that point (and over half the teams missing most of their picks in the first 30 rounds) and no one was making any picks, I compiled a list and posted it.

Boo Yah! :toast:

It's not my opinion, it's a fact.  Trading actual MLB players for worthless draft picks is a bad precedent for this type of league.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/one-in-six-draft-picks-will-click/

Each team traded an MLB player; the picks are just frosting on the cake.

There are actually two Nick Greens.  It appears that you selected the one from :TEX: and I am selecting the one from :KC:

I could be wrong, but I don't think my Nick Green had been selected yet.  He wasn't marked off the list.

Oh okay, I didn't realize there were two of them. I did take the one from Texas. My bad.  :toth:

It's been 2 days since the last pick. With only 4 or 5 teams still participating at this point and all other's on "autoskip", I believe it is my choice. My apologies, if not.

The reds will select with the 24th pick in the 27th round:

Josh James, rhp, Astros (#1006).

39
Why wasn't the posting locked and the player processed? It's natural to assume the bidding is still open, if not.

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Brent: Greg Maddux had the best outlook.  He viewed himself as tye dealer/house and you had to beat him.  Just like in the casino, the house nearly always wins.

  • Daddy: Yes @Brent!! That is it exactly. Pitching is the house & it always wins in the end.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen

  • Daddy: Mr Braves you are my guy. There isnt anything wrong with minor league studs or flops. I get it in REAL baseball.

  • Daddy: This is fantasy baseball. We dont generate revenue selling prospects and merchandising. Our top farms dont get a write up in Sports Illustrated.
