Los Angeles management is pleased to announce they have come to terms on a trade with the Florida Panthers to acquire veteran Goaltender Peter Budaj and defenseman David Savard.

David Savard, $5.7m (2015-2019)

Nikita Kucherov, $6.0m (2016-2020)

Although we can survive the lengthy injury to our 1A goaltender Quick, our organization believes in thriving. Budaj is an expensive mid-term rental option we think can hate the workload with Roberto. In Nikita Kucherov we give up the Number 1 Right Winger in FNHL while he also possesses intrinsic value for the Panthers organization having been drafted by their current GM thus qualifying for a hometown discount. Three months from now we will be left with Savard as the only true player of value in this trade when Jonathan makes his return to the ice. Therefore this trade is bitter sweet for our organization.

:iatp: cats confirm. Savard was moved for his avg output + huge cap hit. Niki was the 2nd player I drafted in FNHL so its great to bring him home. I think this is a great trade for us given Peter Budaj was an inexpensive FA signing and we are addressing several areas of need for our team with this deal. Thanks DD! :toast:

As I mentioned to LA, Kings need to make roster space for the extra body coming their way. Need 1 spot cleared to complete this trade.

After this year, you could argue that DD could only possibly lose 1 of his 2 backups, leaving him with 2 G's and an advantage. That quick raise is enormous though.

Two months ago Peter Budaj was a veteran back-up goaltender playing out his last years in the American Hockey League with little to no chance of a promotion. Along comes a major injury to Quick followed immediately by another injury to newly signed back-up Zatkoff and Budaj is suddenly front and center, seizing the glorious opportunity and his value goes from less than nothing to that of a TOP 10 goalie in an ultra deep 30 team league that places a premium on goaltenders.
No other team values Peter Budaj more than the one who owns Jonathan Quick.
