Is the Expansion Draft going to happen before or after we extend players contracts that end in 21?
Currently planned to take place after the FNHL Finals, but before the official FNHL rollover date.Example, if the NHL restarts Jan 1/21 and end Jun 30/21, we could hold it mid-July.Hope that helps.
Vegas didn't have that option, that is why I was asking. We could just not extend and Vegas couldn't draft. I felt like that hurt Vegas a lot. Can we make a deal with new Seattle to unprotect a player that would normally be automatically protected? The reason I am asking, is that it would benefit Seattle to be able to franchise said player, if they choose. I understand they could just trade for player, but with no chance of ever franchising. Sorry, just trying to keep all my options open as I plan for the future.
Looks like Vegas's expansion draft took place June 30, 2017: http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=301325.0That would put it after the FNHL Finals wrapped up but before rollover to the new season.
They couldn't draft anyone with a contract that ended in 17', hence the lack of quality players drafted. I remember it because a lot of teams just let them hit FA, given they could try to win them back versus Vegas taking them in expansion draft. It was a loophole that needed to be cleaned up.
I'll need to review that with PR.Considering allowing the expansion team to draft a player with an expiring contract could mean Seattle gets to pick thru FA's ahead of everyone else which isn't "fair" relative to ensuring the expansion team gets the same opportunity to bid and sign a player with an expiring contract during FA. Let me talk it over with PR but I think Seattle be in the same boat as other teams when it comes to access to players with expiring contracts.
Sounds good man. I just wanted to know, so I can plan well ahead. My question: Are players with contracts that end in 21' eligible to be drafted in the expansion draft?
Will you (PPG) and PR post the list of rules for teams to protect players for the expansion draft. That would help me determine how to organize things. Thanks!
