Releasing Players Under Contract??
« on: August 17, 2010, 08:56:05 PM »
We should discuss how we would like to do this.  Please post any suggestions here.  All parties are welcome to post.

Well, if we are going to try to play as closely to NHL rules as possible, then what does the NHL do?  Buy-out at 66.66% of the remaining contract spread out over number of years remaining on contract (if I am not mistaken)?  However, we may want to put something in place for new managers that take on an existing franchises....you know, the manager that has run his team into the ground, giving players like Jody Shelley 5 year contracts....it would be tough to bring  a new manager on-board and ask him/her to compete in a crappy situation like that, when their hands are tied to ridiculous contracts. POSSIBLY offer new managers taking over existing teams to be able to release X number of players from their team without cap penalty, where X is determined by where the team's position is in in the standings when the new manger takes the team over (example:  team is in position 1-5...new manger gets to delete 1 player, position 6-10, 2 players, etc, last place...6 players) ?

Just a couple of things to think about?

I like both ideas.  Any other input?  I'd like to set this up soon.

As far as the buyout i agree lets use nhl rules. Now as far as a new manager taking over a team, If the team is doing well and is a top caliber team i feel they shouldnt get any free drops. now if a team is in the bottom tier then yes a few drops would go along way. I would say the most free drops we give is 4. Reason being we do have a salary cap, so if a new manager can drop his 4 worst contracts, he should then presumably free up a pretty decent amount of cap, not to mention expiring contracts that are coming off the board. very good idea grakj i cant remember your name lol.

I like the idea of some free drops for a new GM of a bad team.

I think we have good ideas here.  I will move this to the RC board, and I will propose a specific rule for the books.  Then we can vote.

Two seperate issues; both need votes.  Please indicate which vote is for which issue.

Amendment #1:  Releasing a player under contract:  A buyout will occur for 66.66% of the contract value.  This may be spread out over the years remaining in the bought-out contract.

Amendment #2:  TBD

Votes:
Amendment #1: 3 yes, 0 no   :judge:
Amendment #2: 2 yes, 0 no

What is amendment #2?  The first one looks good to me.

What is amendment #2?  The first one looks good to me.

2 is regarding the drops for new gms, i just wanted to get the numbers correct on it.  Here is amendment #2:  A new owner may drop players, from their inherited roster, according to the standings at the time of the new hire.  The teams ranking will determine the number of free drops allowed.  The numbers are as such; top 1/3 of teams = no drops, middle 1/3 of teams = 1 drop, bottom 1/3 of teams = 2 drops.

Any open flaws with this rule change??

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development
