I suggest we increase the number of MiLR spots from the current 13 to 20.
In dynasty leagues we should be able to house most of our four annual draft picks. As it stands now we constantly have to purge MiLR players after each draft.

20 MiLR roster spots or even 25 like Snugerud's league would work nicely.

sorry my league has 10 minor league spots ,   its a 30 MLR and 10 MiLR roster setting.

Big difference though we can sign and place players on on MiLR that qualify for it.
its kind a reward to the GMs that are actively keeping an eye on up and coming players.

We almost went with a setup that you had to draft all minor league eligible players and that they couldnt be signed via free agency until they had either played their 80 nhl games or were older than 25.  Our drafts is open to all MiLR eligible players not just the ones in the current years draft.  (hindsight this may have been the better way to go. puts a greater emphasis on the draft picks and you couldnt just go sign player willy nilly)

That was one of the features i liked about rebel nhl... but since taking over FNHL, i really didn't want to over tinker with rules that weren't in urgent need of change or that didn't hamper the competitiveness of the league.

EXPANDING MiLR IS A GOOD THING
i do however like the idea of expanding MiLR's because of the way FNHL handles minor leaguers - they're only eligible if drafted.

CURRENT 13 MiLR LIMIT DEVALUES DRAFT PICKS
the current setup of limiting only to 13 in a 30 team league that
allows for 4 annual picks actually devalues draft picks
since teams are forced to dump prospects fairly quickly
within 1-2 yrs after drafting and let's face it...
defensemen and goalies take forever to develop.

TO BE VOTED ON MID-SEASON
i would personally favour expanding MiLR's to allow for more spots.
but that's something to vote on mid-season as there's plenty to address now to get the season off the ground. :)

i'd say rough timelines to update the FNHL 2012-13 deadlines is targeting end of next week currently.

been tied up in a variety of league drafts as most if not all leagues wanted to draft as close to the start of the season as possible given the "sudden" resolution to the lockout.

I think my two concerns about prospects are

a)  it is a nightmare to look at free agents and find players to tinker my team with.  multiple actions for one player, it's crazy.

b)  I don't like how teams auto lose prospects who have reached 40 games.  It should be that they auto sign to the major league squad.  It creates massive holes in teams that lose a guy because of a bad gm.  It destroys the team for a period even longer.  I'd prefer to see all teams competitive.  It also impacts recruiting.

What you are basically asking for is a low maintenance public free league.

I have been part of those in the past (regretfully) and people drop out early and often.

That's what has happened in this league in the past as well, no?

If you aren't managing your own team and expect everything to be automated what's the point of being part of this specific league? You can find automated leagues that don't use minor league rosters and just save yourself the trouble altogether.

Teams are accountable here. That is something I like about FNHL.

It states we need to wait 14 days at the start of the season to use this year's stats for extensions.

Given the Lock-out and the shortened season are we prorating that or is it still 14 days and then we cam post extensions with 2012-13 stats starting on day 15?

I just want to make sure.

What I do care to see is that when owners do become truly MIA that those teams aren't destroyed for years to come.  It isn't about those who are active but those who aren't.  And seeing how this door has x number of teams controlled by management it is an issue as clearly the proof is there to see.

What happened in the past is exactly as I refer to it.  Teams were destroyed by bad managers.  I care for parity and this has been lost in the process.  You can't mitigate people leaving the league by creating a league with a lot of work involved.

Furthermore, you cannot disagree that finding a free agent is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.  It is impossible to do without setting aside serious time to look through league files and figure out where a guy actually is.
