My team was 1 goalie short of being great last year.  Luongo had a fantastic year, so his age is no concern to me.  I think he'll keep producing on a really good NHL Panthers team.  Giving up Kopitar is tough as he is brilliantly reliable and consistent, but with the NHL Hurricanes getting the 2nd pick this year I think I'll be getting another star on my team to replace Kopitar in the years to come.  Nyquist will hold that place in the mean time. 

All in all a smooth intradivisional trade with Ian.

Detroit approves of this trade. I've had Bobby on the block for a while and had a couple offers for him. It's tough giving up Lou, but I need to look towards the future. In all likelihood, I won't be competing for the Championship next year, so I cash in on an aging asset.

Kopitar is great, and even though I'm a little weary of his career season at age 30, I know that he still has plenty of good years left. And I could always trade him away for younger assets if I'm not able to whip my team into shape soon. Nyquist was never the guy that I wanted him to be and trading him away helps with cap and roster space, while letting Carolina keep some forward depth.
