Yankees were going to free drop Stanton for cap purposes but had decided to trade him to recoup something in his place. The Phillies have plenty of cap space to take on his salary and agreed to terms.

Yankees needed to drop Giancarlo to be cap compliant.  It's nice to get some prospects in return.
