Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / Re: FA Prospect Contracts
« on: January 15, 2010, 03:03:42 PM »
I'd like to combine what we've said about FA prospect contract so we have one clear example of how this would work.  Let's say I have the winning bid of $3 million on Player X who is a prospect in rookie ball.  I choose to spread the money over 3 years which works out to a $1 million salary for 2010 through 2012.  As of 2013, he has not yet played one game in the majors.  Does his salary go back down to 500K per season *until* 3 years after he has exceeded limits of 40 IP or 50 games when he becomes a free agent?

From the league rules on FA prospect contracts:

"He accumulate 40 IP for his career by 2006.  He may stay under a prospect contract until three years after 2006.  As of the beginning of the 2009 season (or end of 2008 season), he will be considered a free agent unless signed to a new deal."

Shouldn't the above had read?

As of the beginning of the 2010 season (or end of 2009 season), he will be considered a free agent unless signed to a new deal."

Franchise GM: FGM Commissioner News & Tid Bits / Re: FA - EDR Ruling

Can you assign a prospect acquired via FA *directly* to your EDR and bypass the 40 man roster?

I believe that FA offers should be judged by the *total* dollars on the contract, not the amount per year.  This method would keep things simple and offer owners an interesting choice.  It would force owners to choose between longer guaranteed contracts at less dollars per year or shorter ones at larger dollars.

Franchise GM: Invalid Transactions / Please Define DH
« on: January 11, 2010, 02:52:58 PM »
On 1/15, FA is opening for CI and DH.  There is no DH specific sort in Fantrax.  Many postion players (i.e. Jorge Cantu, Ryan Garko, etc) have a DH designation in addition to their regular positions.  Does this mean that DH *only* players are available for FA on 1/15?  We would have to look them up individually, because as I said Fantrax does not make that distinction.

Franchise GM: Completed Transactions / Rangers Release Millwood
« on: January 09, 2010, 11:31:37 PM »
The Texas Rangers release SP Kevin Millwood ($12m-2010).

1727
Are we allowed to release players AFTER FA starts?  Is there an off-season deadline for releasing players?  Would the same rules apply as far as future years' obligations (75%/50%/25%)?

Thanks.

Franchise GM: Archives / Re: Scoring System Finalized for 2010
« on: December 10, 2009, 10:57:58 PM »
Guys,

I went to the Fantrax site to see how this new scoring system affected my players and the site didn't seem to use the new categories.  Please advise.

Thanks.

Franchise GM: Completed Trades / Re: Trade b/w Rockies & Cubs
« on: November 28, 2009, 11:08:15 PM »
"I have no problem with this deal.  As long as there's no reason to suspect corruption I think it's best all trades are approved.  It's difficult enough to come to an agreement with one manager, I'm not sure it's in the best interest of the league to start interfering with trades."

« Last Edit: November 25, 2009, 05:01:59 PM by mjmezzetti »

If this is how most owners feel, I'm not sure I see the point in having a Trade Committee.  If the only reason for the existence of the TC is to prove collusion, it doesn't seem to have much of a purpose.  I have seen some deals that I personally did not believe were in the best interests of the owners making them or the league in general.

  • dbreer23: Take two to tango, though. Most owners with adequate or surplus SP aren't interested in prospects as they're trying to win now.

  • Daddy: Also agreed. Top quality pitching probably means not much depth. A few injuries can challenge you. Pitching other than top end pitching has been devalued in fantasy. Everyone wants the stud.

  • Daddy: I here to tell you that ALL major league pitching is good pitching. A great hitter beats a terrible pitcher just 3 out of 10 times. Which means the worst pitchers > the greatest hitters.

  • Braves155: The problem with the minors is not the system as a whole, it is some Farm Systems are more 'elite' at being able to produce talent than others. If you look across MLB teams you can pretty easily tell the great systems from the weaker systems and talent development

  • Braves155: With regard to pitching in the Minors...there is  method to the madness. It is all about what you make of it tho. I agree that it can seem certain type arms in the minors are a dime a dozen
