Title: WHAT'S NEW in 2013-14 (FNHL)
Post by: PigsRule on September 17, 2013, 06:02:43 PM
Get ready for an exciting 2013-14 season in Franchise NHL!

This is the league's 4 year!
Everything's gott'n a little better with time!

WHAT'S NEW FOR 2013-14

* 1 STARTING GOALIE + Level playing field:
2013-14 sees the activation of a key rule change that will level the playing field a little more with regards to Goalies. FNHL was headed towards polarized HAVE vs HAVE NOTS with respect to Goalies when teams started 2 G's nightly. This season, teams start 1 G nightly which means teams with multiple starters, back-ups can potentially find better value for their roster by dealing their spare netminder(s) for some productive skaters. Meanwhile, teams without a G can realistically find trade partners. We've already started to see this happen.

* GOALIE EXTENSIONS going up end of 2013-14:
Addressing that throne in the league's side - goalie extensions will be increased by the end of the season starting April 7, 2014 (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=12525.0). This is a realistic value increase given how much scoring Goalies output in FNHL and if you own a goalie with an expiring 2013-14 contract, make the call as to when you should up them or deicide to let them walk at the end of the season. Currently the #1 ranked goalie can expect an extension of $6.4m whereas next season, inflation kicks in and that #1 ranked goalie will get a new contract valued at $10.4m.

* NEW DIVISION ALIGNMENTS:
This was a given with the National Hockey League's re-alignment for the start of the 2013-14 schedule. Our ProFSL and Fantrax sites have been updated accordingly. New rivalries and new love/hate relationships will be brewed.

* WINNER TAKES ALL. PAYOUT TO WINNER** (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=109225.0) :
This is the first year we're offering a Payout to the Franchise NHL Stanley Cup Champion. All teams that have paid into the pool will qualify for the payout year-end. Deadline to submit payment READ HERE! (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=109962.msg605399#msg605399)

* AMNESTY BUY OUTS:
These were activated at the end of last season and available to teams for a limited time annually moving forward. It was a hit as it allowed numerous teams to unload unwanted or excessively large contracts they no longer wanted or begrudgingly inherited. Read more about ABO's here LINK. (http://www.profsl.com/smf/index.php?topic=8270.0)

* MINOR LEAGUE ROSTERS (MiLR) EXPAND TO 20:
With the importance of each team's MiLR in a deep 30-team dynasty league, we increased MiLR sizes from 13 spots to 20 during this past off-season to allow teams to develop in-house talent as another source of acquiring talented point producing players. It also ensures we keep the intrinsic value of Draft Picks in this deep league otherwise teams would start purging draft picks and prospects sooner than needed, de-valuing the FNHL Entry Draft. Outside of the Top 5 Draftees, most prospects need 2-5 years to develop. Now you've got more time to hold onto your prospect assets.

And finally, remember the 2013-14 target is on the head of :PHO: owner and 2012-13 Franchise NHL Champion  :win: , Hockeyfreak47!  :toast:

Let's have a great season everyone!

The FNHL banner and correct 2013-14 team quicklinks will be restored hopefully soon as the Profsl team accidentally deleted the wrong section.

Stay tuned!
