Title: VAncouver Canucks Season Preview
Post by: PigsRule on August 22, 2013, 05:02:25 PM
Background:
After finishing 3rd in year 1, the Canucks dropped to 24th 2011-12. At the start of the strike shortened 2012-13 season an owner change to replace busy Profsler Corey with dangerousjd looked to reverse the fortunes of the team especially after acquiring Marc-Andre Fleury from Florida in the off-season. However, the team lacked scoring forwards and ended up finishing 21st overall. The team's minor league system doesn't appear to have any major league ready prospect which is of concern for the future.

This year:
Vancouver still owns a small but strong core of stars including MAF, the Sedin twins, Alexander Edler, and a capable back-up goalie in the Bulin Wall. There's a need for new ownership to guide the team but the building pieces are in place to bring the team above .500 in 2013-14.

Strengths:
Depth in goal

Weaknesses:
MiLR

Needs:
New owner
FNHL ready prospects
Forwards (LW, RW, C)
MiLR Depth in goal

Future Outlook:
A new owner can easily fill the roster with scoring via trade and acquire a handful of strong prospects to prepare the MiLR pipeline for the team's future. The post-season maybe just out of reach in 2013-14 unless a new owner believes in fast-tracking the rebuild.
