Title: Padres-Red Sox Trade

Padres Trade:

SP Roansy Contreras (P-2025) 500k

Red Sox Trade:

MI Temarr Johnson PC

SP Chris Paddack SP (2026) $5.5M

Boston makes this trade to open up cap space, but also are rolling the dice on Contreras, I like his ceiling as a mid rotation starter. It hurts to let Temarr go, but he is most likely to debut next season and Boston is looking for more immediate contributions.

This deal is all about adding Termarr, from my POV. Giving up 2 yrs of Contreras for 3+ of Johnson, especially when my team will be ready to compete, is worth the risk that is normally associated with prospects. Paddack, while worth a flier, is merely cap offset to help facilitate the deal.
