Atlanta Braves

Atlanta Braves History :ATL:

2021: 4th in AL East (61-101)
The season started well for the :ATL:, new GM, some promising assets, and the team finally seemed to be in good hands after a disastrous 2020.  But, unfortunately, the team was abandoned by the GM during the early part of the season and it suffered as a result.  Without warning, the team was left without a GM as he removed himself from the league. However, a new GM has been found and hopefully the :ATL: will finally have a GM who is committed to turning the team around.

2020: 5th in AL East (0-60)
The Braves had a forgettable season in our short 60 game season.  The roster was originally the Toronto Blue Jays, but after the Jays were abandoned, the Braves GM requested a name switch and it was approved midway in the season when it was apparent neither team was in the playoff chase.  The team will have a new GM in 2021 and the hope is that with some concerted attention, the team will begin the road back to respectability.

2019: 2nd in AL East (60-102)
Another GM change, and an improvement in the standings, but still a long ways away from success.  Even though the Braves were tied for 2nd in the division, they finished 91 games behind the division winner.  Alas, during the off-season, there was yet another GM change, so the future f the team is still murky at best.

2018: 4th in AL East (51-111)
The Braves again floundered in 2018.  There was a GM replacement, but the road to a competitive balance is still a ways off.  The team needs help in a variety of areas, and hopefully, under new management, the team will pursue a path towards revitalization.

2017: 3rd in AL East (48-114)
Although the win total decreased, the Braves did improve to 3rd in the division.  The rotation was beset by injuries and was not as productive as in the past, yet the Braves did see an improvement in the standings.

2016: 4th in AL East (52-106)
The Braves improved their win total, winning 32 more games, but the improvement was only good for 4th in the division.  The Braves wil need to use their available ca to secure some free agents to plug the holes in ther everyday lineup.

2015: 5th in AL East (20-70)
The Braves strong pitching staff was not enough to carry the team.  The everyday lineup was simply not competitive and the Braves plunged to the bottom of the AL East.

2014: 2nd in AL East (74-67)
The Braves found its way and rebounded to finish 3 games out of winning the division.  Utilizing a strong rotation and some timely hitting, the Braves were again competitive in the AL East.

2013: 4thin AL East (28-113)
Injuries have a way of destroying hopes and dreams, and it was never more evident than the 2013 Braves.  Injuries devastated the rotation and the Braves lineup could not carry the team.  Health is a key to future success

2012: 3rd in AL East (84-78)
Atlanta was mostly a wildcard threat and finished with a winning record.  The Braves have not had a losing season in FGM history, but they have not made the playoffs.  The talent is there but will the GM make any chances to get this team over the hump?

2011: 2nd in AL East (81-81)
The Braves had a lot of hype going into the 2011 campaign with a GM who was able to acquire talent at all levels.  Atlanta stayed close to Philly in the first half, but eventually hit a trail of losing streaks.  Aubrey didn't do anything to chance the situation at the deadline and the Braves fell to .500 one week before the end of the season.  Inactivity in the front office prompted Atlanta to replace him with rookie GM nfenger.

2010: 2nd in AL East (83-79)
The new look braves had all of the young talent coming up the pipe along with some new faces.  These players were young veteran MLB players such as Johnny Cueto, Garrett Jones, Russel Martin, Ian Stewart, and Drew Stubbs.  For the most part the team was fairly young, but not short on talent.  There were certainly high expectations for 2010 after just missing the playoffs the previous year.

Despite the team's hot April start (three winning weeks in a row), the GM was let go due to inactivity.  Aubrey Chinners, known in some circles as the Trade King, took over shortly after that vowing to turn the team into a long-time competitor.  The Braves did well in the first half, but couldn't keep up with the fighting Phils in the NL East.  The new GM brought in good contracts, young talent, and vowed the team would have staying power in 2011.

2009: 2nd in NL East (97-65)
The Braves were a very good team but lost in a tiebreaker with the Marlins to make the postseason via the wild-card.  The extrapolated records aren't perfect, but this team had all the makings of a good run.  It's too bad original management was inept at making any moves or else they could have done something.

  • indiansnation: Giants To Sign Blake Snell March 18th, 2024 at 8:45pm CST • By Anthony Franco 8:45pm: Snell receives a $15MM salary for the upcoming season and has a $17MM signing bonus that will not be paid until 2026, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle (on X). That indicates he’ll be deciding on whether to opt out of a $30MM salary next winter, although the delayed date on the payment of the bonus reduces the team’s short-term commitment.  8:23pm: Blake Snell is in agreement with the Giants on a two-year, $62MM contract that allows him to opt out after the upcoming season, reports Jon Heyman of the New York Post (X link). San Francisco adds the defending NL Cy Young winner to the top of a staff that also includes last year’s runner-up, Logan Webb.  ADVERTISEMENT
